Hi. Longtime lurker, raretime replier, firsttime poster. I promise it's not some elaborate knock, knock joke. Just feel trapped by this, whatever it is. Probably nothing. I know it's not the right channel, but couldn't find a spot for "door spirits."
I don't know exactly where to start. Not even sure if this is a thing or I'm overreacting. But just trying to get this out, if nothing else, for feedback.
It always starts in winter. Early winter, I should specify. When houses start shrinking and growing due to the weather. It's nothing extraordinary, but every so often in the middle of the night, I wake up to the quietest sound. My front door cracking open slightly.
It's not loud or jarring but I'm guessing just odd enough to get the monkey survival instincts pumping. And that's it.
I know it can be explained by what I said about the weather, but it's just, I don't know. It's not frequent enough to be anything, but frequent enough where it sticks in my brain. I'll throw in a pic here to illustrate why it's so bothersome in the middle of the night.

I know you can't see much, but that's what I keep waking up to and walking out to find. Front door just slightly ajar. I've even been double-checking to make sure the latch is in the thinger, but still happens.
Maybe I'm being paranoid, but it's infrequent enough where I can't tell if it's ever actually happening on the days I checked. Plus, waking up half-asleep makes it hard to connect to the dots. I guess I'm asking, "does anyone else deal with this?"

No, small town and police station across the street. Unlikely for weirdos to mess about. But good idea. Deadbolt will probably fix it. 👍

So definitely not the deadlock. It happened again. Kind of freaking out. But it's not like it was loud or anything. Same quiet creak out of nowhere and went to look, same thing, just barely cracked open.
It's lunch time, but I will update when I can. Busy irl right now.

I had a similar thing for a while. It was mainly my back door though. Turns out a bug got squished in the interior latch. Try checking that.
