Title: Jurassic Park
Author: Michael Crichton
Collection: Jurassic Media Collection

Base Description: Michael Crichton’s novel Jurassic Park follows the creation of a revolutionary theme park on a remote island off the coast of Costa Rica, called Isla Nublar, where dinosaurs have been brought back to life through genetic engineering. Wealthy entrepreneur John Hammond invites a small group of experts to evaluate and get their opinion on the park before it opens. Among them are paleontologist Alan Grant, paleobotanist Ellie Sattler, mathematician Ian Malcolm, lawyer Donald Gennaro, and public relations for InGen Ed Regis. As they tour the island alongside Hammond’s grandchildren, Tim and Lex Murphy, Malcolm repeatedly warns that such a complex system cannot be perfectly controlled, referencing the famous scientific hypothesis known as Chaos Theory.

The park’s security begins to unravel when programmer Dennis Nedry attempts corporate espionage by disabling critical systems to steal dinosaur embryos. His betrayal causes power failures, releases several dinosaurs, and leaves both the visitors and staff stranded. Tyrannosaurus rex and Velociraptors escape containment, turning the island into a deadly survival game. As communication, transportation, and security begin to collapse, the characters struggle to stay alive while discovering that the dinosaurs are reproducing despite safeguards designed to prevent it.

Variant Description: The variant is a first edition of Michael Crichton's book that is adorned with the late author’s signature. The main title of the book is crossed out in red permanent marker; below that, in large capital letters, is the phrase “CHAOS THEORY”.

Deeper into the book, during the sabotage of the park’s computer systems by Dennis Nedry, the text “White_rbt.obj” is highlighted with a yellow highlighter. Upon reading “White Rabbit Object” aloud, the reader will be brought to the approximate location they were at sixty-six million to two-hundred-two million years ago during the Mesozoic era of Earth. Strangely, this does not include your sea level position, as the reader always appears on the ground.

Reader Observations
Archivist Kennedy Kennedy reads the book normally until he reaches the keyword. Kennedy reads the key phrase aloud and disappears along with the book. Kennedy later returns dead. Cause of Death: Blunt Force Trauma and Traumatic Dismemberment. The object is found open to the last page Kennedy had read.
Quester Frank Scott Quester Scott is fitted with a camera and given a baseball bat. Frank Scott reads the keyword aloud, “White Rabbit,” before teleporting out of sight along with the book. According to footage recorded by the attached camera, Scott appears outdoors, surrounded by unfamiliar vegetation. The camera pans toward the sky, revealing a large flying reptile. Scott begins to panic as the creature notices him and starts diving toward him. Scott utters the codeword and returns to his original location, once again within sight of the proctors.
Councilor Roberts Curious whether the destination depended on the reader's location. Councilor Roberts proceeded to take the book to the Montana Badlands and conducted testing under Archivist Fredrick's supervision while equipped with a camera. He confirmed that saying the phrase alone, or while holding the book without turning to the correct page, produced no effect. Upon opening the book to the page containing the keyword and saying, “White Rabbit,” Roberts disappeared along with the book. Camera footage showed an environment different from the one previously documented by Scott, containing multiple prehistoric animals, including what appeared to be a Tyrannosaurus and several flying reptiles. After documenting the area, Roberts activated the return phrase and reappeared at the test site.

Discovery: The anomalous edition of the 1990s Jurassic Park was discovered after an incident in Indianapolis, Indiana, on July 18th of 2001, after a showing of Jurassic Park III. A body was found badly mauled inside the cinema’s bathroom, and the local authorities were informed. The object was stolen from the city’s evidence lockers and brought into the hands of SUM.

Keep Status: Because of the carnage the book has caused, Councilor Roberts has ordered that the book be locked in a clear locker with a four-digit code on the restricted floor of the SUM center. For those wishing to check the book out, it must first be authorized by a Councilor, and the user must have proper supervision and a camera on their person to properly document their experience.
