ARTIST UNKOWN

Caribbean Islands, 2525

Materials: Various watercolors, crude oil, liquified bone marrow, cerebrospinal fluid, dried blood from a now thought to be extinct species of cephalopod, small traces of spoiled sheep milk, and Candle wax.

Location: Bridgetown Academy, Barbados

Exhibition History:

Bridgetown Academy, Barbados. 2525-Present: stored in the high security metamorphic wing, third floor. RESTRICTED ACCESS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

Occult Properties:

The piece will present itself in an indefinite number of variations by shifting its appearance. Shifts occur on erratic intervals (every other day, then five, then seven at indeterminate hours).

During intervals between shifts, guests viewing the piece reported foul smells, the contents of which vary.

After at least three days without a shift, various materials will be generated by the piece,2 as well as minor topological changes in its immediate surroundings & short-term hallucinations of various sea life. Guests are not allowed to view previous iterations of the piece directly, except for the first day of a shift in presentation. Guests are not allowed to view the piece.

Description:

This piece, standing on a large easel-like stand made of fish tissue, has been dubbed "Waves of Life" due to its currently untranslated original name. The piece exists upon a blank canvas made of condensed sea salt. Chronologically, the piece has yet to be fully dated & some of its materials are among the oldest ever recorded.

Like most metamorphic art, Waves of Life doesn't have a stable design. Instead, it possesses a set of common traits & themes portrayed in specific ways that distinguish the piece.

Conservation: None necessary.

Critical Judgment: Despite the cult following this piece has gained from a few, I believe Waves of Life is nothing more than a failed attempt at surrealism. The piece clearly takes many inspirations from many different religions, possibly attempting to produce a sort of harmonious straight line between their differences, using the ocean to bridge the gap. However, disregarding its occult properties, the piece nor its many nonsensical variations pays no respect to the faiths it deals in, coming off as a mindless mishmash of seemingly "cool" imagery that conflicts with any sort of coherent interpretation of intention. Leaving me dissatisfied.

Provenance:

2525: Academy spedizione all'aperto squad begins investigation of SoHo ruins for rumors of ancient metamorphic art.

2527: The piece is fully uncovered, found residing inside a sea cave, cradled by a vaguely humanoid/crinoid rock formation, constantly expelling marine sand from an unknown source.

Late 2527s: The easel of the piece is delivered to the new Bridetown Academy through an anonymous donation traced to Three Portlands Plaza.

2828: Nico di Giovanni volunteers to curate the piece, confirming its occult properties in the process.

2842: The metamorphic art boom of 42 attracts a variety of visitors to the piece. Four months later, the shift system of the piece shortened from years to months.

2846: The piece is stolen by the Chaos Insurgency, though seemingly no action to destroy it was taken.

2847: The SCP Foundation returns the piece to Bridetown Academy after a 1-month testing period, awarded due to their efforts in reclaiming it from the Insurgency.

2855: The band "fifth hundred and fifty five flying kites in space" performs live next to the piece for 5 hours during their world tour.

2911: After the conclusion of the 7.5th interstellar occult war, the shift system of the piece changes from months to days.

2915: The Horizon Initiative requests the decommissioning of the piece on the Vatican's behalf, which is denied.

2922: Physical contact with the piece is officially prohibited due to possible microplastic contamination.

2926: Unidentified Intruders break into Bridetown Academy, dumping rotting flesh, aquatic waste, and a human corpse holding a single purple lily next to the piece. The waste isn't removed due to the piece shifting before scheduled 1 hour after the incident.

2932: A bloom group of curators actively viewing the piece are observed performing ritualistic behavior, resembling the movement of waves & are henceforth placed in psychiatric care.

2954: The Chaos Insurgency performs a massive data leak regarding previously recorded variations of the piece.

2957: Various recreations of said previous iterations are produced and enter the market, some instances possessing similar occult properties.

2985: Collaborative efforts with the SCP Foundation regarding the piece are fully completed, resulting in the containment and preservation of most recreations.

2987: The corpse near the piece performs protandrous sequential hermaphroditism, its head achieving pentaradial symmetry. All waste near the piece is removed due to safety concerns.

3013: At the end of a seven-day shift cycle, the piece starts to pulsate and flash in various colours instead of producing another variation.

3025: The piece shifts to a blank white canvas, its surroundings becoming matte black in coloration with white polkadots. Viewers report a cold feeling from the piece.

3030: The piece is officially declared RESTRICTED ACCESS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
