FROM THE FILES OF SITE-19
Series 0 is a canon created by Crow-Cat, Animal Hospital, ratking666, and Liryn.
Series 0 is about the Special Collections Program, a clandestine organization within the United States military. The Program operates internationally, securing magical artifacts, containing supernatural creatures, and protecting civilians from their influence.
This project is a speculative exercise interested in stripping the SCP concept and setting down to their barest essentials, with some arbitrary decisions made to keep the canon functional. It's largely undefined as of now, but we're here to see what happens and where it goes.
We don't believe in there being an explicit "canon runner" or central authority for this canon. Decisions are made democratically amongst contributors. We encourage everyone to participate in this in any capacity they choose, although we would prefer you joined the Discord or reached out for crit before posting. Our Discord server is open to anyone with a site membership; join it with this link and input your Wikidot username if you have one.
We only have a few ground rules to ensure the project achieves what it ought to achieve:
- No outside influence. SCPs, characters, locations, objects, Groups of Interest, etc. originating outside of Series 0 are impermissible for use. Series 0 is a blank slate. We are starting over completely. Only SCP-173 and its immediate implications are canon, as well as anything created by authors expressly for Series 0.
- The Program is smaller, less influential, and has limited resources. This world does not have a Veil or Masquerade in the traditional sense. There is no "anomalous world" nor any semblance of a unified "theory of the anomalous". There's no cognitohazards, antimemes, amnestics, D-Class, laser-energy weapons, reality anchors, SCRAMBLE goggles, or even teleportation. (This falls under the first rule.) This Program is possibly the only agency dedicated to the paranormal, owing to the unique relationship the supernatural has to public American politics in the 21st century.
- We're not just "doing Series I again". Series 0's premise begins with: What if SCP-173 were posted today, and that's all we got? and continues with: What would we write to expand on this strange thing? Series 0 should have its own reader-friendly style, free of contemporary notions about what SCP "is" or "should be". Invariably similarities and familiar conventions will emerge, but these should not be confused for expectations.
- You don't need permission from anyone, to use anything. Everything is equally up for grabs. Extremely interesting elements can arise from coincidence, collaboration, and asking for forgiveness rather than permission. Series 0 takes the collaborative aspect of this community and pushes it to the max. Kill off someone else's character, make two characters date, turn a heroic character into a villain, or vice versa. The collaborative aspect of Series 0 specifically is more anarchic than the surrounding democratic attitude.
