SCP-L451

I keep telling you about the things I miss. Do you know what I miss most? Progress.

There is a different kind of hell that awaits those who speak their mind. There is a different kind of hell that awaits the silent. There is a hell for us all. We found ours.

Good luck.

Item: SCP-L451
Containment Class: Euclid

S.C. PROCEDURES: SCP-L451 is to be contained through the efforts of the Department of Miscommunications, and Memetics. Global disinformation and misinformation campaigns are to be upheld until the complete containment of the anomaly is actualised.

You know, I was like them. At some point. I don't know what happened but I think I saw someone talk about some event that was happening. Something they have never seen before? I don't know. I never really got along with the whitecoats personally. Never really understood them. Never really tried either. I was happy in my own little world.

Then, it happened. I got back home and I realised my wife had not started dinner yet. I fixed something up and we just moved on with our evening. It started small, you see. I think that might have been the first time I cooked something in the last decade. I would never hold that over her. Maybe if I did, I could stop it.

DECRIPTION: SCP-L451 is the observable loss of comprehension affecting 19% of the global population. The complete loss of comprehension happens over the span of 8 weeks and is currently unstoppable and irreversible.

The loss of comprehension also creates a lack of spacial and temporal cognition, a lack of attention, fatigue, and restlessness. These additional syptoms cease to be a source of discomfort once the complete cessation of comprehension is actualised.

I don't think I am better than anyone. I never really have. I treated everyone in my life equally. Everyone except my friends and family, of course. That has to be normal. Otherwise, I would be the freak in this scenario. She stopped watching the news with me. She said they did not make sense. She simply just "sat around" and did nothing for a while. I wondered what she was doing at home when I wasn't around.

I wish I said something back then. I know it says there is nothing we can do but I would have tried. Happily as well. The Foundation will never see me as someone worth listening to. They are above me. I actually respect that, If you can believe it. I wish that respect had a way to trickle down. We are not worthy of happy endings. Not all of us.

DISCOVERY

SCP-L451 was discovered on ██-██-████ when Dr. Charlie Harley failed to report on the research status of SCP-████ for 5 consecutive weeks. With the approval of further research into the event, Foundation webcrawlers found 705 individuals who showed identical symptoms. The event was marked as an anomalous phenomenon.

The rate at which SCP-L451 spreads is currently unknown. There also appears to be no correlation between the affected individuals.

Do you ever feel— I mean, did you ever feel like you were away from yourself? Almost as if you were watching yourself from a camera, or something. I did. When she started not getting out of bed. I thought something was wrong with her. I took a day off work, and believe me you guys are not making that easy. I took her to the hospital. The doctors said there was nothing wrong with her but I knew there was. They just didn't know her like I did. She kept saying she was fine. When I got back to work, one of the researchers scolded me for not telling them about her.

I visited her until the day she keeled over. They said it happened because of starvation. If I was any dumber I would have blamed them for not feeding her. I am not. I mourn her still. I wish there was something we could have done. I know you hide things from me but I also know you would have saved her if you could. I will never hold that against you.

TEST LOG

D-0922, an individual who has been affected by SCP-L451 was tested to see if there was any way of counteracting the anomaly.

TEST 01

D-0922 was given medication commonly used to treat amnesia and dementia. The results were not altered. The cognitive declined showed no sign of slowing down.

TEST 02

D-0922 was given mnestics. The results were not altered.

TEST 03

D-0922 was given a series of books rated for ages 8-10, 10-14, 14-18, and 18+. The results were not altered. The subject was only capable of understanding the first set of books.

TEST 04

D-0922 was given heroin. Subject became unresponsive.

Further testing awaiting approval.

I think everyone expected something different. You know? The rapture is a good example. What a way for it to all end… I think we all expect something big to happen when it ends. Oh, so many of us are dissappointed with the endings of movies, the last seasons of TV shows, the last chapters of books. Of course, some of them actually suck. Maybe most of them. But there is something we don't like about the end. Something we don't like about it just… ending. No big reveal, no knight on a horse, no Jesus Christ, no big explosion, no meteor hitting the earth, no massive containment breach, no XK-Class scenario.

I miss those days. I miss cracking a cold one open and just talking about nothing. Some weather we've been having. I saw the weirdest bird today. I had this amazing sandwich at this food truck around the corner, you have to try. I miss thinking out loud and being challenged. I miss arguing with people. I know what you're thinking. Well, I know what you would be thinking. Yes, I am not the only cognizant person on earth and I can find someone to talk to. I miss you, though. I will never have you back and I just cannot move on.

STATUS REPORT

Since the tests on D-Class personnel the amount of people affected by SCP-L451 has increased by a lot. The cognitive decline thing seems to have slowed down as well, for some reason. We are all trying very hard to understand the current situation. If any Foundation personnel can manage to use SCiP-Net, they should report it to someone higher up.

The current reach of SCP-L451 seems to be extensive enough. The public probably knows about it now. I wish we had a containment class for that.

The world is a fucked up place, fucked up even further by men. We have destroyed everything around us and we just kept going. Look at it now. Just a bunch of rubble. I guess there aren't enough people who understand maintenance these days. Sorry, that was in bad taste. I am sure we will find enough people to bring this all back up to the way they were. Well, that's not right. It won't help. I know it won't but I just don't see a way forward right now.

I keep telling you about the things I miss. Do you know what I miss most? Progress. Taking a step forward. I think I am done whining about the way things were. You know what they say, Director: Be the change you want to see in the world. This reminds me, I was being an asshole to my wife about today's kids never working or something like that. She listened to my rant for like ten whole minutes. I said I just wanted things to be how they were ten years ago but I could never go to the past. She told me that I could. I thought she was joking. But the look on her face… She told me that I could go to the past whenever I wanted. The problem is, nobody is there anymore.

ADDENDUM

It got us all. I don't know how but it did. Fuck, I don't know what to do! If anyone is reading this, please fix it! Somehow. I can't tell you how and I am sorry. I am so confused and tired. I just can't seem to get the thoughts in and out.

It's complicated, Someone managed to get their hands on some data from webcrawlers or something. Almost everyone is affected. Almost everyone. There may still be a chance. I think? Just try something.

What was it again? Shit, I should know this! Ah, whatever.

Secure, C????, Protect

I don't know if I can stop it. But I know I can move forward. One step at a time, just like the old days. I just gotta find someone who had their password on them when they became husks. Sorry, again, no offence. You'll thank me for this, I hope. If I succeed.

Maybe we will build a new generation. Maybe that will fail too but that's fine. Fate has a weird sense of humor. I am certain something interesting will happen. Anyway, big day ahead. I should get going. Thanks for being such a good listener.

Not like you had a choice anyway.
