Item #: SCP-JOKE-J1

Object Class: Safe (and Secure)

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-JOKE-J is to be contained within its containment chamber, which is a room designed for containing it. This containment chamber is physically located inside and situated within the interior boundaries of Secure Administrative Facility Researcher Site-240 (Facility Location: Secure Administrative Facility Researcher Site-240).

The containment chamber site must be kept locked at all times during normal, standard working hours, ensuring the facility remains closed, not open, and entirely locked down from 09:00 AM to 05:00 PM. Only personnel with Level 4 Clearance (or personnel who possess authorization at the fourth level of clearance)2 are permitted to access, enter, or otherwise go inside the containment area.

In the event of a breach wherein containment is lost, MTF Force Delta-Δ ("Delta-Δ ") is to be deployed to re-contain the uncontained anomaly, thereby putting it back into containment.

Description: SCP-JOKE-J designates and refers to the Department of Redundancy Department (DRD), a functional foundation department within the Foundation that operates as a working division of the organization.

The primary anomalous property of SCP-JOKE-J is its tendency to cause, induce, and bring about extreme levels of linguistic repetition, tautology, and redundant phrasing in all text documents, written records, and typed files that describe it, depict it, or otherwise write about it. This effect causes words to be repeated again.

Individuals employed by, working for, or contracted to SCP-JOKE-J exhibit the following symptoms:

Repetitive Speech Patterns: Subjects will say things more than once, repeating their statements again after they have already said them.

Redundant Actions: Subjects will frequently perform an action, and then do it again, duplicating the task they just completed.

Departmental Overlap: The department routinely files paperwork requesting funding that has already been requested in a prior, earlier funding request.

Reiterated Verbal Communications: Affected individuals demonstrate a tendency to vocalize statements multiple times, expressing their thoughts a second time immediately following the initial vocalization of those thoughts.

Repetitious Task Execution: Staff members will routinely engage in the secondary performance of a physical task that has already reached full completion, executing the deed again to replicate the work just finished.

Fiscal Allocation Duplication: The division continuously submits administrative documentation requesting financial budgets that were already sought in a previous, pre-existing budget request sent earlier.

Duplicate Vocal Distributions: Afflicted personnel display a recurring behavioral trait wherein they state verbal remarks on more than one occasion, re-saying their spoken words directly after the first instance of saying them.

Recurrent Procedural Enactment: Staff within the department consistently repeat the completion of a physical action that has already been fully completed, carrying out the task an additional time to mirror the action they just did. Notable examples include locking a pre-locked door to ensure it is locked, or affixing an official signature to an administrative document that already displays their written signature.

Budgetary Re-Re-Submissions: The department frequently forwards official paperwork to request monetary funds that have already been applied for in an earlier, prior application for funding.

Discovery:

The existence of SCP-JOKE-J was first discovered and identified during a routine inventory check of the central database files in 19993, just prior to the turn of the new millennium. During a regular data audit, the automated system detected an identical, matching copy of a newly classified anomaly file had been uploaded to the server. Upon further investigation into the system logs, it was discovered that a duplicate, second file had also been uploaded right alongside the first primary document.

Addendum-JOKE-J-1: Below is an email from Diane Lane to Head of the Department of Redundancy Dr. (Doctor) Junior Junior JR. (PhD, MD, Dr. Med, Esq.), explaining that they recently performed a routine inventory check of the central database files, and the automated system detected an identical copy of a newly classified anomaly file.

The above email from Diane Lane explains that a routine inventory check of the central database files was recently performed, and the automated system detected an identical copy of a newly classified anomaly file.

Diane requests a review of the system log and a restoration of the configuration error on the terminal before the storage archives completely run out of digital space.
