Description: SCP-9917 refers collectively to two related pieces of media, hereby referred to as SCP-9917-1 and SCP-9917-2.
SCP-9917-1 is a digital upload of a VHS recording of unknown origin, known colliqually to the public as "the Fredrickson Family Tape".The origin of this name is unknown.. SCP-9917-1 suffers from audio-visual degradation due to severe generation loss.A gradual loss in quality due to repeated copying and/or transcoding of data.. As a result, only sparse clips of it are legible.
SCP-9917-1's few legible excerpts portray a home video recording of an unknown American family, estimated to have been filmed circa 1986. No names have been able to be deciphered, and facial scanning of the parties portrayed within have consistently failed to produce results. No anomalous activity or phenomena is visible within SCP-9917-1.
SCP-9917-2 is a 15-second audio snippet of a New Wave synthpop song of unknown origin and creation, briefly audible within the last legible fragment of SCP-9917-1. SCP-9917-2 is sung by a feminine voice with a Liverpool English.Informally referred to as "Scouse". accent. Due to severe audio distortion, only the bridge and a fragment of the first lyric SCP-9917-2's chorus verse are currently transcribable, which is transcribed below:

All attempts to identify the song and its vocalist have failed.
Addendum - Discovery: SCP-9917 was discovered on 15 March 2025, following a post in the r/lostwave[span class="fnnum"]].[[/span]]Lostwave is "genre" of music, used by the Lost Media community to refer to music with unknown origins. subreddit by user u/lovememountainmama titled "Unknown song ('Goin' Goth'?) found in home video clip (next MSOTI[span class="fnnum"]].[[/span]]Acronym for Most Mysterious Song on the Internet, referring to Fex's "Subways of Your Mind", which was fully found in November 2024. Refer to SCP- ████-EX for more information.?!?". By the time Foundation webcrawler Kindstranger.aic had flagged the post, it had garnered 2,583 total upvotes and 3,347 comments over the span of the two days it had been online.
Upon reception of SCP-9917, the Department of Anomalous Broadcasting deliberated on supression and archival of the information, as well as amnesticizing all participants in the thread. However, after preliminary analysis of SCP-9917-1 and -2's contents, Site-247 lead researcher Amelie Nyka ultimately decided to designate SCP-9917 as Eparch, owing to the lack of anomalous properties barring SCP-9917's inexplicable origins. As such, above-Veil discussion of the media was allowed to continue while research is undergone.

Special Containment Procedures: Foundation webcrawler ulterior.aic is to continuously scan for mentions of SCP-9917 online. Upon confirmation, ulterior.aic is to suppress and archive the information, and disperse Class-I amnestics to all relevant parties who witnessed said information.
Coverage of SCP-9917-3 suicides resultant from Stage Three SCP-9917-2 exposure are to undergo standard media disinformation procedures. Claims to the contrary are to be dismissed by embedded online Agents as conspiracy theories.
POI-9917 is considered a high-priority target for location and interrogation.

SCP-9917-1 suffers from audio-visual degradation due to severe generation loss. As a result, only sparse clips of it were legible until 27 July 2025.
SCP-9917-1's portray a home video recording of the Fredrickson family, filmed on 27 July 1986. An unknown entity - hereby referred two as SCP-9917-4 - is visible in all legible samples of SCP-9917; see below for more information.
SCP-9917-2 is a 15-second audio snippet of a New Wave synthpop song created by Group of Interest-9917 ("Red Summit Music"), briefly audible within the last legible fragment of SCP-9917-1. SCP-9917-2 is sung by POI-9917 ("Pique Scarlet"), who possesses a feminine voice with a Liverpool English accent. Due to severe audio distortion, only the bridge and a fragment of the first lyric SCP-9917-2's chorus verse are currently transcribable, which is transcribed below:

The instrumental of SCP-9917-2 possesses cognitohazardous and compulsive properties, which activate upon repeat listenings by human individuals with a Cognitive Resistance Value below 45 (hereafter referred to as SCP-9917-3). These properties operate within three stages:
- Stage One (0-8 exposures): SCP-9917-3 instances will gradually lose all interest in musical compositions that are not SCP-9917-2, of which they will gain an addictive obsession over. These instances will attempt to decipher meaning from the lyrics of SCP-9917-2 through non-anomalous means, which will invariably end in failure, frustration, and growing distress.
- Stage 2 (6-18 exposures): SCP-9917-3 instances will begin to neglect their physical and mental health in favor of trying to discover more information about SCP-9917-2. Their searches will invariably lead them to sub-Veil resources, such as the Wanderers' Library, Void, [REDACTED]
- Stage Three (15-19 exposures): SCP-9917-3 instances will procure a knife, sever their jugular via slitting their throat, and attempt to paint runes with their blood onto as many surfaces as possible prior to expiration.
All attempts to use amnestics to circumvent or prevent SCP-9917-3 infection have all failed.
SCP-9917-4 refers to the entity present within SCP-9917-1, most prominently in the final fragment. SCP-9917-4 is amorphous, with only pure-white eyes discernible on its face. SCP-9917-4's presence is not acknowledged by the Fredrickson family, and it makes no actions beyond observation. Research into SCP-9917-4 is currently ongoing.

However, on 31 April 2025, Kindstranger.aic flagged another post by u/lovememountainmama, posted to r/trueoffmychest. The contents of the post contained a suicide note with numerous sub-Veil keyphrases present. The post was immediately archived and suppressed, and a Mobile Task Force was dispatched to u/lovememountainmama's last known location. Upon arrival, the apartment of ████ ████████ was discovered in disarray, with their body in their bedroom surrounded by runes. An audiofile of SCP-9917-2 was playing on a loop on ████████'s computer, alongside the post made by u/mountainmama. ████████'s death estimated to be about 15 minutes following post.
SCP-9917's classification was immediately called into question following this revelation, taking into account the death and the number of people who were exposed to SCP-9917-2. Following discussion with Site-247 leadership, SCP-9917 was given an emergency reclassification of Keter, with containment procedures quickly revised to accommodate.
Addendum 9917-02 - Further Findings: On 27 July 2025, after months of painstaking effort, restoration technicians within the Department of Anomalous Broadcasting were able to isolate and decipher more audio-visual information from the final fragment of SCP-9917-1. Its contents are transcripted below.
(Jason Frederickson is seated within the kitchen, on a chair facing outward. He is seen consuming a beer of unknown branding, while his spouse Kaila Frederickson sits on the kitchen floor in front of him. SCP-9917-4 passively observes the two on the left side of the screen.)
Jason Frederickson: It's about that time.
Kaila Frederickson: (Sniffles) Seems like it.
(SCP-9917-2's bridge finishes, and proceeds unto the chorus. However, following the first lyric, the sound of a malfunctioning tape deck can be heard offscreen, followed by the unspooling of cassette tape.)
Jason: Ah, damn it all to hell! (Pauses for a few moments, then shrugs) Well, not like it'll matter in a few moments.
(An infant[span class="fnnum"]].[[/span]]Identified as Michael Fredrickson, one year of age at time of death; cause of death revealed to be dehydration. can be heard crying in the background behind Jason, who winces and then grimaces at the sound.)
Kaila: … Should we–?
Jason: (Shaking his head) You heard what this Pique Scarlet lady said, honey. He can't come with us.
Kaila: But–
(Jason brandishes a kitchen knife from his pocket, silencing Kaila. Jason stares at the knife contemplatively, twisting his hand.)
Jason: … Time to see if this Golgotha mountain is all that it's cracked up to be.
(Without any further hesitation, Jason puts the knife to his throat and slits it. A gurgle leaves his lips as blood sprays from the wound. Gasping, he places the knife on the floor and slides it towards Kaila, before collapsing off the chair and onto the floor.)
(Kaila picks up the bloodied knife, visible hesitation on her face as Jason begins weakly transcribing runes onto the kitchen floor behind her. She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath, before proceeding to slit her throat as well, falling onto her hands and knees whilst choking.)
(The infant's cries transition into a wail.)
(Jason expires, slumping onto the floor. SCP-9917 walks in front of the camera, causing all audio to cease, before the visuals abruptly turn into static.)
"Pique Scarlet" and "Red Summit Music" were subsequently designated POI-9917 and GOI-9917, respectively. Current containment measures put into place.
