SCP-8982
rating: -11+x

Item #: SCP 8982-1

Object Class: Thaumiel

Description:

SCP 8982-1 is located near Cramlington, Northumberland in England. It consists of the Northumberlandia sculpture and the area around it. SCP 8982-1 is used to contain SCP 8982-2. Below the lake closest to the sculpture's entrance, a small grate opens to the underground facility housing SCP 8982-2. While SCP 8982-1 was originally not anomalous, it's prolonged proximity and contact with SCP 8982-2 has made Northumberlandia into an anomaly.

The sculpture since 2014 has had reports of having human-esc noises eminate from it. These included soft groans exiting the facial area, despite the mouth being unable to open and the nose often making sniffling sounds. The noises proceeded to worsen over the next four years until it culminated in Incident 8982-A in 2018.

INCIDENT 8982-A:

From the 22nd of February 2018 to the 5th of March 2018, the Beast of the East snowstorm ravaged much of Europe but mostly affected Great Britain and Ireland. When the storm reached Cramlington, a noticeable shift in Northumberlandia was recorded. Security footage shows the body of the sculpture moving in an odd pattern, before suddenly sitting up. While sat up, the Lady of the North's mouth opened up and screamed. The scream was mostly dampened by the winds of the storm but shattered multiple windows in Northumberlandia's infocentre.

After sitting up, the sculpture looks at the lake entrance to SCP 8982-2 and plunges it's hand into it. No damage is done to the actual entrance, though SCP 8982-1 seems content and lies back down. It is reported that SCP-8982-2 had curled into a corner during this event and did not leave it until after the Beast of the East dissipated on March 5th 2018.

Item #: SCP 8982-2

Object Class #: Pending

Description:

SCP 8982-2 resembles the ex-Primeminister of the UK, Margaret Thatcher. Though, some differences are noticeable. 8982-2 is 7ft tall and it's body has small patches of coal ore embedded in it, these however are not all present on the creature's right arm. On it's right arm, it's entire hand is made up of Iron.

The creature was found during excavation of the Shotton Surface Mine adjacent to where Northumberlandia now resides. It was found surrounded in coal in 2004 when a heat-scan of the area was done by the Blagdon Estate and Banks Group while applying for permission to excavate the area when a clearly human shaped signature appeared on the scanner.

When the coal around it was excavated in 2006, the creature would attack and kill 7 of the ~150 workers on the site at the time. The British Armed Forces would intervene and aid in later Foundation cover ups and Containment.

SCP 8982-2 would be transported to Site-██ but after multiple successful escape attempts, the idea to try subdue it by keeping it in relative proximity to the Shotton Surface Mine was established and the Lady of The North's would begin construction in 2010 to contain it.

Below SCP 8982-1, resides Site-8982 which is entirely dedicated to keeping SCP 8982-2 contained. The proximity to Shotton Surface Mine would succeed in slightly pacifying SCP 8982-2, but would cause more accidents in the mine. However, in 2014 as SCP 8982-1 began to gain sentience, SCP 8982-2 began to become less aggressive and more fearful.

After Incident 8982-A, SCP 8982-2 began to become almost entirely docile and the increased accidents at Shotton Surface Mine would cease. Before the incident, SCP 8982-2 was classified as Keter, but since then it has been changed to Pending as debate on whether it is now Neutralised or Safe has become discussed.

Notes:

The Foundation believes the Lady of the North embodies the spirit of the Northern English and their hate for the original Margaret Thatcher.

It is also possible that SCP 8982-2 was found in coal due to the original coal mining ban by Thatcher in the 1980s.
