SCP-720-FR

Item#: SCP-720-FR

Threat Level: Yellow ●

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-720-FR must be emptied of all ammunition and stored in a secured locker in Storage Site - Kybian's firearm storage warehouse #06.

All tests must be conducted by D-Class personnel in a shooting range of minimum dimensions 5m x 5m x 3m, and escorted by at least 2 guards with level 2/720-FR clearance, both armed and equipped with bulletproof armor. Research personnel supervising the tests are to do so from the adjacent room, overlooking the test room through bulletproof glass

Any researcher with at least level 2 clearance or higher can manipulate SCP-720-FR as long as it is empty and separate from its magazine.

SCP-720-FR is to be considered unusable. All tests are suspended until further notice.

Description : SCP-720-FR is a semi-automatic, chrome, .44 calbier Desert Eagle Mark I pistol, whose safety seems to be on by default. This model has two indicator lights at the base of the barrel, which indicates its state. Even though the object can be disassembled, no way to unlock the safety without damaging the item has been found.

Outside of the elements present on this model, the pistol has a photoreceptive lens in its sight as well as an audio receiver located on its right side, near the safety. Thorough examination reveals that an additional safety system has been implemented, as well as different miniaturized electronic components, linking the whole system together. Among them is a microprocessor of unknown origin featuring the inscription "[?]LW-[??/??]", written with a permanent marker. The ink appears to have been intentionally scraped off, with care put into sparing the two remaining initials.

SCP-720-FR has a will and morality of its own. To use the object on living targets, the user is "encouraged" to argue the legitimacy of their request. It then falls unto SCP-720-FR as to whether or not it cooperates. To communicate its answer, the item will use the two lights under the safety: green for an agreement, red for a refusal. In case of an agreement, the item will unlock its safety by itself, and the user will be able to use it on the now permitted target. Thus, it is hypothesized that SCP-720-FR must be given enough information to identify the target's appearance before giving a final verdict. Even though this hypothesis has been taken into account during tests, no D-Class personnel has been able to convince SCP-720-FR to let itself be used.

If the selected target is inert (walls, trees, actual targets, etc.), SCP-720-FR loses all anomalous characteristics and can be used like any other weapon of the same type. The safety will lock itself as soon as the user aims the barrel towards any living being, within a timeframe comprised between 0.09 and 0.15 seconds, preventing any accidental use or attempt at deception. Finally, SCP-720-FR can, in extremely rare cases, decide to fire itself if it deems its integrity threatened.
(see log 720-FR/1).

SCP-720-FR can communicate via its indicator lights. Each signal is accompanied by a specific sound wave, depending on which diode it broadcasts through its audio receiver. Its internal language is similar to binary, "0" and "1" being respectively associated to the red and green indicator lights. However, the display rate of its indicator is far too fast to be easily identifiable by humans and requires the help of a computer to allow translation.

During interviews, SCP-720-FR typically shows itself to be cordial, though it seems to hold the human race in low esteem. However, further interactions with research personnel, especially Dr. L██, reveal at a more complex and ambiguous personality. The entity has notably demonstrated an excellent mastery of human psychology, and has shown great insight when detecting those who with repressed trauma. All these traits indicate that SCP-720-FR hones its skills and knowledge throughout its existence and is capable of applying them to its terms of use.

Addendum 720-FR/A : It seems probable that the object is in reality an abandoned project of a certain "William Loth", on the behalf of Anderson Robotics (see attached documents). No known document in the Foundation database concerning Anderson Robotics mentions the name of such a project or person.

Discovery: SCP-720-FR was acquired from a civilian in the aftermath of a crime of passion involving a "false" weapon by the French National Gendastrerie1 the ██/██/2022 at ███████.

Following the defendant's declaration, and after an initial examination of the object,
The Abjurant2 Codely informed the Foundation of a new Potentially Anomalous Artefact (PAA)
