Item #: SCP-655
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: Item SCP-655 is contained in a 5 x 5 decimeter heavy containment cell located in Site-39. Reinforced blast walls enclose both sides of the containment unit, in case of dimensional rupture. The chamber is located adjacent to the main containment sector, with two sets of decontamination airlocks separating the container from the main site.
SCP-655 is to be fed once daily by containment specialists, who are to sedate the entity before entering and after exiting the containment unit. This can be done with external atmospheric controls that fill the chamber with high-potency anesthetic gas. If the cell's interior is damaged by accrued structural damage or dimensional shearing/tearing, the on-site Dimensional Liaison may replace the containment unit. This is expected to be necessary approximately once every two weeks.
In the event SCP-655 escapes its containment chamber (and the anesthetic gas proves to be ineffective), the Dimensional Liaison is to be alerted, and the Liaison is to cut off the corridor connecting its cell to the main site. This can be done with a pair of scissors.
Description: SCP-655 is a hostile, predatory organism measuring 1.05 dm (10.5 cm) from tip to tail. The entity is tripedal, with two hind legs and a single anterior limb with four digits each. The organism locomotes by anchoring itself with its front limb, before dragging or vaulting its body forward. Despite appearing to be a slow, ineffective method of moving, the entity can be deceptively quick along certain surfaces.
SCP-655 is capable of folding, contorting, and shearing through the planar dimension using its appendages. It typically hunts its prey via ambush, before trapping its prey in a dimensional fracture torn by its claws. Prey inhabiting more lightweight surfaces, such as paper, are likely targets for attack. Like most organisms of its nature, SCP-655 possesses the ability to traverse seamlessly between different surfaces — however, the entity is additionally capable of using its own dimensional tears to access the other side of a given surface.
Despite being two-dimensional, SCP-655 is not harmless to three-dimensional beings. Due to its ability to traverse walls, fabrics, and even human skin, SCP-655 has attacked 3D personnel on numerous occasions. While SCP-655 is far too small to pose a mortal risk to 3D individuals, caution is still advised, as the entity often feeds on clothing and skin cells. SCP-655's presence on the epidermis is a risk factor for developing inflammation and necrosis.
Containment of SCP-655 has been entrusted to the two-dimensional Site-39, given the administration's expertise with handling 2D anomalies. A Dimensional Liaison is stationed at Site-39 to facilitate relations between the 2D and 3D worlds. While the initial containment unit was constructed of hardwood to prevent dimensional rupturing, it has since been replaced with paper to facilitate a more natural environment for SCP-655 to inhabit. 3D personnel at Site-39 should remain cautious when handling SCP-655, as physical contact could enable a containment breach.
Incident 655-1: During a routine maintenance inspection of SCP-655's cell, a catastrophic power failure allowed for numerous anomalies at Site-39 to breach containment. The release of the locks and the absence of the Dimensional Liaison at the time allowed the entity to escape into the research sector. Site security then proceeded to engage the entity, and managed to subdue it back into containment.
Only one fatality was sustained — Special Agent Alan Thompson, who was tragically killed in action during the breach. The Foundation thanks Mr. Thompson for his service. May he be remembered for his heroic deeds which saved the lives of countless Foundation personnel.
Addendum: Due to the evident need for more adequate containment protocols, the facilities director of Site-39 approved construction of an advanced, high-tech containment unit. This cell is to be constructed from high-strength structural trusses composed of a reinforced fiber matrix. The new container is to be suspended 3 meters above the rest of the site with thin fixture cables to prevent the entity from escaping.
A photograph of the unit, taken by the Liaison, is attached below. Cleared personnel may access the technical readouts of the containment chamber.
