SCP-3394-JP instances.

Item #: SCP-3394-JP

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: All SCP-3394-JP instances are to be contained within standard item storage lockers at Site-8104. Known individuals exposed to SCP-3394-JP's anomalous properties, as well as their close associates, are to be administered amnestics and provided with the false history template "Traumatic Experience Accompanied by Stress Reactions" to disguise the effects of exposure as non-anomalous.

Description: SCP-3394-JP is a silver-colored pressurized aerosol spray can, of which 16 instances have been recovered to date. Based on the fact that several cans bear labels reading "habit fixer by dado," it is strongly suspected that they were created by the amateur para-pharmacologist known as "dado."

Despite exhaustive component analysis confirming that its content is a non-anomalous hair styling agent similar to those commercially available, spraying SCP-3394-JP onto a human results in the target experiencing anomalous effects in addition to the typical hair styling benefits.

When attempting to perform a specific action, whether consciously or not, affected individuals report that their body stiffens and becomes immobile "as if glued in place" immediately before the action. While this state of rigidity can be temporarily lifted by abandoning the intention to perform the action, no method has yet been discovered to permanently eliminate or mitigate the effects of SCP-3394-JP.

The specific actions targeted by this anomalous effect are those commonly referred to as "tics" or "habits," effectively rendering it impossible for affected individuals to exhibit these behaviors. The "effiacy" label affixed to the back of the can lists supposedly targeted tics such as “head scratch” and “leg shake,” though Foundation experiments have confirmed that there are numerous unlisted exceptional cases; it is unclear whether this is due to an insufficient understanding of its anomalous properties or simply negligence upon listing.

Addendum 3394-JP.1: Message Log

On 20██/██/██, SCP-3394-JP instances were recovered from a barbershop in Iwate Prefecture, Japan, where they had been packed inside an Amazon shipping cardboard box. Upon investigation of the barbershop, records of a text message conversation with “dado” were found within the smartphone owned by the shop owner, Tabe Kenji (age 41 at the time). Notably, this texting conversation was conducted entirely in Japanese; "dado" exclusively used hiragana and lowercase English letters and employed grammatically ambiguous, broken Japanese.

The following is a transcription of these records; text within the blue boxes is from Tabe, and within the gray boxes is from "dado." Japanese words suspected to be directly related to SCP-3394-JP's anomalous properties are presented in italics and left untranslated.

SCP-3394-JP was discovered after reports that a certain barbershop's reputation had suddenly improved drew the attention of a Foundation field agent. Prior to this, Tabe's shop had received frequent complaints about the owner's unpleasant habits of shaking his legs and picking his nose during haircuts. Although it had a steady customer base as one of the few barbershops in the area, its poor customer service had become widely known.

Local residents reported sightings of white smoke billowing from the barbershop around the dates when the aforementioned text messages were last recorded, and residue from a hair styling agent matching SCP-3394-JP was detected on the screen of Tabe's smartphone. These findings suggest Tabe was exposed to SCP-3394-JP as a result of a dispute with "dado."

Based on the evidence presented above, it was concluded that the barbershop’s reputation improved because the owner was no longer able to exhibit unpleasant "habits" due to his exposure to SCP-3394-JP. Although Tabe clearly expressed dissatisfaction with the Foundation’s investigation and request for cooperation involving the temporary closure of his barbershop, he was not observed engaging in any of the behaviors one would normally expect such as protests, verbal insults, or demands for compensation. Whether this is an effect of the "improve ver" of SCP-3394-JP is currently under research.
