SCP-2712-JP manifestation point
Item #: SCP-2712-JP
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: The SCP-2712-JP manifestation point is to be contained by covering its surroundings with tarpaulin. The manifested beverages are to be collected daily by assigned personnel.
Description: SCP-2712-JP is an anomalous phenomenon that occurs on the ground surface within a one-meter radius centered on a specific utility pole (Management Number ██████████) located in Sakashita-cho, Kawaguchi, Saitama Prefecture, Japan. Every day at 19:34:17 (JST), SCP-2712-JP generates a large number of Gokunomi Melon Soda1 bottles various beverages. The total number of beverages manifesting has been observed to range from a minimum of forty-two to a maximum of seventy-eight.
Six types of beverages have been confirmed to manifest as of writing. These beverages, including Gokunomi Melon Soda that was first observed, have all been confirmed to be identical to their commercially available counterparts. Each instance has a best-by date that is reasonable given the date and time of its manifestation.
Addendum 1: Discovery Circumstances
It is presumed that SCP-2712-JP originated from a fatal traffic accident that occurred on April 18, 19922. Following the accident, civilians began placing offering items such as flowers and beverages near the utility pole at the accident site (Management Number ██████████). Among these offerings, the unusually high number of 500-mL plastic bottles of Gokunomi Melon Soda3 prompted rumors among witnesses, leading the Foundation to investigate the matter and confirm the occurrence of anomalous activity.
An investigation into the accident victim, Kumagai ██████, revealed that he was particularly fond of Gokunomi Melon Soda during his lifetime, as confirmed by interviews with his relatives. Furthermore, the estimated time of the accident coincides with the daily occurrence time of SCP-2712-JP.
Addendum 2: Enactment of Project Refresh
Following the Pathetic Payday Event in ████, the Foundation encountered severe financial difficulties. Significant budget cuts had worsened working conditions for personnel, and concerns arose regarding the impact that declining staff morale might have on containment tasks. As a measure to address this situation, a proposal was made to effectively utilize the beverages manifested by SCP-2712-JP, which led to the enactment of Project Refresh. An overview of this initiative is provided below.
Project Refresh
Project Refresh was established with the aim of utilizing the beverages manifested by SCP-2712-JP to improve the welfare of Foundation personnel.
Operational Conditions
- Select one manifested beverage at random and conduct safety verification tests regarding its ingredients and quality. Proceed to the subsequent procedures only after safety has been confirmed.
Implementation Procedures
- The Site's general affairs personnel determine beverage requirements for each department and create a distribution list.
- Based on the distribution list, the beverages are distributed to requesting personnel, with a limit of one bottle per person.
As you all know, the working conditions for Foundation personnel are grueling. Irregular shifts, high-stress containment tasks, and substandard resources due to chronic budget shortages. We carry out our duties in such an environment every single day.
This project is a small token of appreciation for said personnel.
The beverages generated by SCP-2712-JP show no discernible differences from commercially available products in terms of either ingredients or quality. The risks associated with distribution are extremely low, and operational costs are almost non-existent. Could there be any other employee benefit program that offers such low risk and high returns?
Of course, the background behind the manifestation of these beverages involves certain circumstances that should be taken into account. However, staff morale is directly linked to the stability of containment operations. If a single bottle of melon soda contributes to that, then this constitutes a worthwhile welfare initiative.
- Project Refresh Responsible Personnel
The launch of Project Refresh was approved by a unanimous vote of the responsible personnel (3 in favor, 0 against).
The distribution of beverages through Project Refresh has been positively received by many employees, and it has been confirmed that it has had a certain effect on boosting morale. The project will continue to operate while regular safety checks are conducted.
Addendum 3: Beverage Manifestation Log
On October 23, 1997, the first instance of a beverage other than Gokunomi Melon Soda was confirmed to have manifested. Since then, the appearance of new beverages has been observed intermittently. The following is excerpted from the [SCP-2712-JP Beverage Manifestation Log].
| Collection Date | Items Collected | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 1997/10/23 | 56 Gokunomi Melon Soda instances; 2 Fukairi Black instances4. | First confirmed case of Fukairi Black appearing. |
| 2000/04/02 | 49 Gokunomi Melon Soda instances; 7 Fukairi Black instances; 1 Yokaze Sour instance5. | First confirmed case of Yokaze Sour appearing. |
| 2002/07/11 | 42 Gokunomi Melon Soda instances; 5 Fukairi Black instances; 13 Yokaze Sour instances; 2 TOKU-CAN Highball instances6. | First confirmed case of TOKU-CAN Highball appearing. |
| 2005/10/21 | 29 Gokunomi Melon Soda instances; 8 Yokaze Sour instances; 15 TOKU-CAN Highball instances; 1 Gō Beer instance7. | First confirmed case of Gō Beer appearing. |
| 2018/09/07 | 18 Gokunomi Melon Soda instances; 7 TOKU-CAN Highball instances; 21 Gō Beer instances; 1 Shirasagi instance8. | First confirmed case of Shirasagi appearing. |
Regarding these entries, the assigned personnel have proposed a noteworthy hypothesis that the changes in the manifesting beverage may correspond to the shifts in preference Kumagai ██████ would have experienced if he had lived. Based on his year of birth, his age at each point in time, assuming he survived, would correspond as follows:
- 1997/10/23 (estimated age 17): The first confirmed manifestation of canned coffee. This aligns with the preferences of late teenagers, who are likely to enjoy canned coffee between club activities and schoolwork.
- 2000/04/02 (estimated age 20): The first confirmed manifestation of canned chūhai. This date coincides with Kumagai ██████'s 20th birthday, which aligns with the tendency for young adults newly reaching the age of legal drinking to begin consuming relatively mild canned chūhai.
- 2005/10/21 (estimated age 25): The first confirmed manifestation of canned beer. This aligns with the shift in preferences commonly observed among adults several years into their careers.
- 2018/09/07 (estimated age 38): The first confirmed manifestation of sake. This aligns with the tendency for preferences to expand to include sake in the late 30s, as food-related interests grow more refined.
Project Refresh was approved to remain active by a unanimous vote of the responsible personnel (3 in favor, 0 against). The following is their statement.
We are aware that there are concerns regarding the diversification of manifesting beverages. Pointing out that we should carefully evaluate the impact on containment stability and safety whenever new manifestation patterns are identified is entirely valid.
However, we ask you to consider the actual situation. The results of all safety verification tests have been satisfactory, and no differences from commercially available products have been detected to date. Revisions to operational guidelines have also been completed, and the safety of the current procedures has been sufficiently confirmed.
The purpose of Project Refresh is not merely the supply of materials. This initiative is designed as a support measure to alleviate the psychological burden on personnel engaged in containment duties and to improve their morale. In particular, given the current environment where work tends to be prolonged, it is crucial to ensure that personnel have means for mental recovery. Taking these perspectives into account, it can even be said that the diversification of the appearing beverages has actually enhanced the value of the project. Furthermore, recent trends in beverage selection demonstrate a high degree of alignment with staff preferences, making the project's effectiveness as an employee benefit measure surpass that of previous situation.
For the reasons outlined above, we consider the continuation of Project Refresh to be appropriate and support its further implementation under the current framework.
