SCP-1800-KO Order to Leave Work
Author:

The Korean Wiki is an official branch of the SCP Foundation. However, sometimes, it is treated as unofficial, and certain emotions engulf me. This article is written to exhibit the fear, pain, and burden when we face such emotions in the Foundation world.
Rapid Situation Broadcast System
Site-01K, broadcasting to each base and operational area.
All personnel at sites and facilities under the Korea Regional Command must cease their assigned duties and leave work.
Grace Choi, Administrator of Site-01K
Item #: SCP-1800-KO
Object Class: (blank)
All personnel at sites and facilities under the Korea Regional Comman must cease their assigned duties and leave work. Ensure that this directive is conveyed to personnel not receiving this document. Site directors report to Site-01K. Right now.
Description-1: Animals instinctively puff up their bodies when encountering enemies. The Foundation was no different. Our essence was nothing more than a facade concealed in tension. I can't even be sure if you all truly exist now. So please, those who want to confirm how far the truth goes, come.
Text Communication Log
<17:16> -09K1 :: Director, are you there?
<17:19> 04K2 :: Can't we call??
<17:20> -09K :: Calling's not my style. Did you get the notification, too?
<17:20> 04K :: [1 attached image. It's a screenshot of the message from 01K.]
<17:21> -09K :: What are you going to do now? Don't you know anything?
<17:21> 04K :: Nope.
<17:22> 04K :: Just do what we used to do.
<17:22> -09K :: But, it's orders from 01K?
<17:22> 04K :: Ms Yeon. Since when were we the underlings of Seongnam?
<17:23> -09K :: What?
<17:24> 04K :: You stay here long enough, you know. I've seen many people go insane from the randomest of events, even those in the higher-ups. Mostly, people who couldn't bear the responsibilities they never had in society before.
<17:24> -09K :: So…
<17:24> 04K :: Would you die if they told you to? We're not Sites under 01K but under the Foundation. We don't run stuff like that. Personal deviation is nothing more than personal deviation.
<17:25> 04K :: How's it going with the people in Jinju?
<17:25> -09K :: They… all packed and left before I ordered anything. Not even a single goodbye. How about you? Did you stop them from leaving in Gangwon?
<17:25> 04K :: Couldn't do if I wanted to. It's in the middle of the front.
<17:26> -09K :: …Okay. Well, I might as well just sit in the empty site.
…
<17:31> 04K :: You'd better make some tea. I'll see you today.
<17:32> -09K :: You're coming here?!
Description-2: It is difficult to pinpoint what SCP-1800 is. More precisely, it's too early to judge. We don't know much, but what is sure is that everything we've accomplished and built over the past times could vanish. We don't know the extent of this. From what I've explored, the usual communication with the JP branch, with which we often interact, has been cut off, and the IT branch has gone completely silent. Whether they're dead or alive, we can't know unless we board a plane and go there.
I've seen SCPs like this before. Anomalous entities that are born in video files and behave like Foundation personnel before dying abruptly. Entities that couldn't possibly figure out if they're in a video file. I hope this absurdity we're experiencing is not such a cliche scenario.
Video Log
The phone bell is ringing.
Some clicking
The bell rings again.
Lee Gangsu, Site-21K Director, picks up his PDA.
21K3: Hello, Administrator. This is Site-21K Director Lee Gangsu.
-01K4: Hmm.
21K: Are you okay?
-01K: No, to be honest… It'll be fine soon. Where are you?
21K: Seongnam, just past the toll gate.
-01K: Mr. Lee, can you park on the shoulder for a second? A short time will be fine.
21K: Ok.
Brief silence. Only the sounds from the car could be heard.
PDA buzzing.
21K: What is it?
-01K: Check the video I just sent you.
21K: What? Okay, give me a moment.
Director Lee changes from recording voice to video.
The PDA shows a video of a reservoir. It seems to be a real-time streaming connected to the 01K water quality monitoring watchbox.
21K: It's the giant reservoir. I've seen it a few years ago. Are you there?
-01K: I need someone to check it.
The reservoir surface starts bobbing slightly.
21K: Wait-
-01K: Why? Can you see something?
21K: Administrator, what are you doing? The place is…
The reservoir starts splashing everywhere.
21K: Administrator!
The car starts, and the engine runs. Sounds of frantically stepping on the gas pedal.
-01K: The demolition button in every single site. We don't have nukes, but we proudly have this.
21K: Huh. I didn't know you can trigger it whenever you want.
-01K: Doesn't matter if it is. What's important is how it looks.
Brief silence. Then, the camera filming the reservoir starts shaking violently.
21K: Fuck…
A few minutes later, Director Lee parked his car in front of the reservoir.
The camera goes out of focus for a moment and then returns. The footage shows a calm reservoir.
Director Lee checks the livestream on his PDA. The reservoir is boiling up.
21K: What the hell…
-01K: Are you here?
21K: Where are you, Administrator?
Director Lee runs towards the water quality monitoring watchbox.
-01K: In the site just before, but now I'm outside for some fresh air.
Director Lee arrives at Site-01K's entrance. Administrator Grace appears as he opens the door.
21K: Hah- What, how… It's…
Grace gestures at Lee. Lee makes way for Grace.
21K: This watchbox is much smaller than I remember.
-01K: Come here.
21K: Administrator, I have some questions. Please tell me what the hell is going on.
Grace picks up a long stick and turns halfway around the watchbox. She then looks at the top of the watch box.
21K: That's the CCTV. The one filiming the reservoir.
-01K: It is.
Grace tries to poke at the camera with the stick, but she's too short. She passes the stick to Lee, who tries instead.
Lee looks at his PDA while poking the camera. The footage on the PDA does not show the stick moving at all.
A stone flies into the camera, breaking the lens. Lee, surprised, looks back, and he can see Grace with several pebbles in her hand.
-01K: Look at the screen.
The footage went black. Nevertheless, Grace keeps on throwing the stone.
21K: Do you know what it means-
-01K: Oh, darn.
Unidentified: Hey! You there!
A civilian, who looks like a worker from management, runs towards them from a not-too-long distance, shouting.
Lee tries to pull out his pistol on his waist, but he cannot feel it. He raises his hands and walks towards the civilian. The civilian stops running and starts to walk.
21K: Who are you?
Unidentified: That's for me to say. What are you doing there?
21K: Go to the car first, Administrator.
Unidentified: No, no. This lady here threw the rocks.
The civilian approaches and tries to snatch Grace's arm. Lee tries to intervene, but Grace punches the civilian as soon as she's grabbed. The civilian falls down, holding his neck. Grace also falls down.
-01K: Ugh, I'm fine.
21K: We're in a pickle. Let's escape first.
The two run away from the site.
Description-3: I became aware of SCP-1800-KO quite some time ago. It was during meetings with representatives from various regional commands that I used to feel that sense of unease. Every time I tried to feel that unease, something changed little by little. It was as if a disaster that had clearly occurred in one country would neatly disappear, or an entire regional command would vanish. People reacted to such events as if they were nothing. I, too, tried hard to ignore it; perhaps everyone present was making an effort to ignore it as well.
I talked about this with the Spanish Regional Command Administrator in private. He tried to reassure me, saying it was probably just a matter of mood, but there was still a sense of discomfort in my heart. And then, he disappeared. I felt an existential dread, and I began to think that I could no longer escape it.
Tho .
Hello. This is Site-13K Director Seol Semyeong.5
I just checked the order to leave work. I was on vacation. However, nobody on our site is taking any contacts. I'm sending this to your civilian emails since it seems like you all left your PDAs here. What is going on here? Is this a memetic or cognitohazard attack? I almost contacted Administrator Grace because of that.
I'm in the main facility for a while, but not even the lights are on. Never mind the employees; what about the contained instances?
…
I'm trying to call cognitohazard and antimeme experts in my office. Nobody's responding yet… What's more urgent is the containment facility. I hear weird noises from the basement, but the firearms cabinet is locked, so I can't head there alone. Also, who destroyed all our special containment procedure documents?
…
I locked all the main facility doors. If you're under there, please respond. I'm going to visit other facilities.
…
The western facilities… were occupied by civilians. What is even happening? I'm the Director, but I was kicked out. But… What can I do? I'm heading to Halla now. Please respond if you're there.
…
Halla is gone.
…
The main facility is gone, too.

This is Ikdae.
Apologies for contacting you this late. I have a few questions to ask!
I've been here long, but I don't know how many sites there are in Korea. Can you give me contacts for the site?
And for our employees… I sent all of them home, but now what? Haven't you heard back from them?

-04K: Ms Grace. Are you a pufferfish or something?
01K: Wait, isn't this from Soha?
-04K: Seongnam, this is Gangwon.
-09K: I'm here, Director!
21K: Director Kang Yoonsang, where are your manners?
-04K: Oh, you're in a carpool? I thought you were coming to Seongnam. Where are you going?
21K: What the-
01K: Just hand it over.
Grace turns off the speaker mode.
01K: Well, nobody RSVP'd, Mr Kang. I'm out looking for them.
-04K: And why do you think they wouldn't? Because they think you're crazy. They saw their employees crawl out like they're high on meme shit. How could they think it is a normal order? Have you screened yourself?
-09K: W- W- Wait. I'll speak. Honourable Administrator Grace Choi-
-04K: Where is this, a court of justice?
-09K: We're all confused, too. We have so much to ask, but I sent everyone home as you told me. I've contacted other directors and visited them in person.
01K: So Soha is in Goseong?
-09K: No. Director Kang…
01K: So? It's too little time to get from Goseong to Jinju.
-04K: I don't know what you're trying to say. I rode my personal helicopter. What is the problem?
01K: And you flew it yourself?
Brief silence
-09K: Um.. I might have made a mistake. The thing about all employees going home is it's for 09K. Getting to 04K wasn't easy, so there-
-04K: I didn't want to tell you this, but…
Silence
-04K: All of 04K is out, too. Do you think I can block a whole crowd trying to leave by myself? I can't. I couldn't.
01K: What…
-04K: So, you want to know what happened?
Director Kang adjusts his posture.
-04K: …The site's right in front of North Korea. What would the South Korean army think of a squad of unidentified people running around in the mountains?
Silence
01K: The employees… What happened to them?
-04K: Your order, it killed my people.
Long silence
-09K: …Administrator, we're here.
Sound of the car stopping
Knocking on the car window
-12K6: Nice to meet you! This is Ahn Ikdae from 12K. Thanks for picking up the phone. Phew, the weather is so cold nowadays.
-04K: Ms Yeon, turn on the heater.
01K: Director Kang, About this…
-04K: The helicopter? Administrator, I don't know. I rode it, but I don't know who flew it. I know at least I don't know how to fly a helicopter. I don't even know what happened to it after I got off. I don't even know how I got out of that situation. So this situation, this deep shit we're in is SCP-1800? Do you want to say that?
-12K: (Whispering) Who is he talking to? O5?
-09K: (Whispering) What is an O5?
-04K: Nothing you should know! Bastards who like to boast while keeping you on a short leash.
01K: Director Kang, that's what I was trying to say. I don't know if this could be of some consolidation… It could be that nobody died there. They might not have been there in the first place.
silence. Director Kang lets out a big sigh.
-04K: I don't know what the hell this means. The illogical world screws up so much and finds leads to do us more.
01K: So let's talk in person. We're headed to 145K.
-04K: Ms Yeon, have you ever been to Jeongeup before?
-09K: No. This is my first time.
-04K: My dear Administrator, turn on the volume, please.
Administrator Grace turns on the speaker.
-04K: Tell Mr Gangsu next to you to give you the coordinates for 145K.
-12K: Oh, that's unneccesary. I did some research. I can guide her.
21K: Huh. So be it.
The call ends.
21K: Tsk. Coward. Don't take that guy's words by heart. He's just yapping around.
01K: He has a lot of mysteries, but he's helpful. How far do we have to go now?
…
Description-5: This is Site-13K Director Seol Semyeong. This document is new to me. What is SCP-1800-KO? Is it the phenomenon that I'm experiencing? All the anomalous instances under my site's management seem to have vanished, along with the site. Is it the price to pay for peace?
Don't mind. Just go home.
— Site-38K Director Lee Taejin7
Mr Taejin? Taejin, are you alive?
I don't feel dead.
Are you going to go to 01K, too, Semyeong?
Not a chance.
I can't even figure out what's happening around me.
It'll return to normal soon.
Well, think you got extra days off.
What about the anomalies?
Are you worried about that on your holiday?
Also, you're from Jeju, and you stay on that island on your holiday?
Come to Incheon if you feel bored.

21K: Hey! I'm over here!
12K: Nice to meet you! Director Lee Gangsu, right? I'm 12K Director Ahn Ikdae.
21K: Of course, I heard a lot about you. And you?
09K: Yeon Soha. 09K.
04K: Seoul, where is Administrator Choi?
21K: She told me that she has stuff to get…
12K: I can see her there!
Grace approaches from a not-too-far distance. She is holding a bolt cutter almost as long as her leg. Director Ahn rushes to her and holds the cutter instead.
04K: Why did you take that for?
01K: I went to the door a long time ago, and it was locked. I borrowed this from a nearby convenience store.
09K: If it's locked, could they have already left? I heard some Directors left with their employees.
21K: That… needs checking; I saw the lights inside were on when I was there.
A white plastic bag makes crunching noises as Grace hands it over. Inside the bag are some pieces of bread, bars of chocolate and some beverages.
01K: Have this. We're gonna stay up all night.
09K: Oh, thank you.
Director Yeon takes the bag and distributes the food to the group.
12K: Thank you.
Director Kang takes a beverage. He skims at Yeon and hands the bag to Director Lee. Lee takes the bag with an awkward expression on his face.
Grace leads the Directors to the forest. Ahn turns on his flashlight, illuminating the path.
The group sees a storage room, which is a covert entrance to Site-145K. The lights are off inside.
09K: At last, are we going to talk about 1800-KO?
21K: If I have to hear it… I hope the ending is on the less shocking side.
Grace cuts the padlock on the entrance. As the door opens, Lee enters first. Grace follows after. She soon starts coughing.
21K: Ugh, what the… Do people really live here?
04K: All this dust… Is this a Foundation Site? Can't we turn on the lights?
12K: I'll find the switch.
01K: That's odd. They were on a short while ago.
Director Ahn shines the flashlight on the wall. He turns it on.
The storage unit brightens up. The floor is messy with straw, sand, and mud.
Unfitting with the decrepit interior, a luxurious wooden chair and table with a silver plaque on it stand out. The plaque reads "Yoon Do-ha."
Director Kang discovers another door opposite the entrance. As he opens it, the room inside lights up. The camera shortly goes off focus and back on again. Site-145K Director Yoon Doha8 is hanging on the ceiling, a belt tied around his neck. Director Yoon Doha appears to have killed himself.
Kang blurts out an empty chuckle. Grace looks away.
04K: In Gangwon… We contain over thirty SCP instances - five of which need constant management.
Kang looks at Lee.
04K: Seoul, how much do you have?
21K: More than ten that need constant care. In total, in the hundreds.
04K: We all just left them there. Everything.
Director Kang nods and slowly walks in front of Grace. Lee also does so. Yeon starts walking, following Kang.
12K: All of us, in every corner of the Korean Peninsula, abandoned our work, and no disaster happened. What could this mean? Does it mean… nothing is real? Our Sites, Directors, SCPs. And the Foundation?
Grace shakes her head.
04K: Ms Choi, what do you want to tell us from all this fiasco?
21K: Don't treat the Administrator like she's fully responsible.
09K: What are we? If it's all a facade… Does it mean we're not real?
Grace passes by Lee and stands in front of Kang.
01K: SCPs are real. That's what brought us together. The SCP Foundation is real. The Directors and Sites are real. The Foundation employees are real. It's just…
Grace bites her lip.
01K: It's just we're not them. That's my thought.
04K: So, the Foundation exists, but we're not the Foundation?
21K: What… Then what are we?
01K: Whatever we are, it's not meaningless. That's for sure.
21K: Haah… Oh, boy.
Ahn shakes his head. Lee heads out the door.
Kang looks around and finds a small blade on the table. He grabs it and enters the room. Kang briefly observes Yoon and puts the fallen chair upright. He then steps on it and cuts the leather belt around Yoon's neck bit by bit.
Yeon follows inside and holds the chair in place. Kang waves at her, and Yeon stands away. Yeon tries to catch Yoon as his body drops from the ceiling. However, she falls down from the impact.
04K: You should have kept your balance.
Kang pushes Yoon's body with his foot so Yeon can stand up. Ahn picks up the body on his shoulder.
04K: My Site, my people, and the contained instances. They could be all fake, but we are real. Yoon died for real, too.
01K: That's how it should be.
12K: The body… What do we do with the body?
01K: First, let's check the remaining Sites…
Noise can be heard outside: police sirens mixed with the muttering of a crowd.
09K: What?
01K: Oh, no. It's that civilian.
Yeon rushes towards the door. However, she puts her hands up as soon as she exits.
Kang tries to reach for his pistol on his waist but cannot feel it.

Description-6: SCP-1800-KO is a term used by the subjects to refer to themselves or the anomaly they are experiencing. SCP-1800-KO is understood to be the gradual collapse and disappearance of the anomalous world they built. The confusion arising from the experience affects the subject negatively, leading to loss of self-identity and depression. Fortunately, amnesties are effective in treating such symptoms. Thus, administration can be done when needed.
The subjects have great knowledge of the SCP Foundation, its administration, anomalies, and various standard response protocols. The anomalies they claim to exist, which count up to around 800, have their respective appropriate standard containment procedures, which could be useful for the improvement of existing Foundation standard containment procedures.
As per the decision of the Foundation Overwatch, the subjects are designated as SCP instances. This is the second anomalous instance discovered in the Republic of Korea and is pending official SCiPNET listing. How they have manifested, or how to exploit them, is under research. Several more people with similar qualities have been confirmed to be in Korea. Methods to safely secure them are under development.
Interview Log
Location: Suncheon Temporary Base-173
Interviewer: Korean Anomalies Department Head Seonwu Anan
Interviewee: Kang Yoonsang
<Start of Log-4>
Kang Yoonsang stares at the interviewer, frowning.
Interviewer: I'm sorry I'm late. Not a lot of people are at work this early in the morning.
Kang does not respond.
Interviewer: Hmm. It was close then, haha. Though, I'm relieved that we aren't late. Thank goodness the police were laid back.
Kang Yoonsang: I know who you are. What are you?
Interviewer: No, before that, I'm wondering how you know me.
Kang holds up his hand. The cuffs around his wrist make a clanging sound.
Kang Yoonsang: The Foundation-issued tables, the handcuffs, the interview sheets, they're all real. What are you?
Interviewer: I'm Seonwu Anan, field team leader and envoy of the SCP Foundation to Korea.
Kang Yoonsang: No, you're the director of Site-64K -
Interviewer: There is no Site-something-K. The Foundation doesn't have plans to build any sites in Korea.
Kang keeps talking, smirking.
Kang Yoonsang: You saw Mujin with your own eyes, and still nothing? Then, your affiliation, state your affiliation.
Interviewer: Mujin? As I just told you, I'm with the SCP Foundation. If you're asking for something like a regional branch, the Foundation doesn't have such a structure.
Kang Yoonsang: Is this all your intention, like Grace said? To use us for whatever your advantage is?Interviewer: We… It's not like that. We're just amazed to discover you. I don't know if you're familiar, but I have visited to contain the first anomalous instance ever discovered in Korea - more precisely, an anomalous location. It's a small sculpture park -
Kang Yoonsang: Why are you different from all of us? Because you're a foreigner?
Interviewer: It's where sculptures appear and disappear. We-
Kang Yoonsang: Then, what about Grace? She-
Interviewer: Okay, okay. The person you call Administrator Grace is Korean, born and raised. Our interviewer tried to speak to her in English, but she couldn't say a word. Haha.
Kang Yoonsang: What?
Interviewee: She's struggling. She's going through the torment of a crumpled identity.
The interviewer pulls out something from a pocket. It's a driver's licence. The name reads Choi Oo-ah. The photo is of an East-Asian woman. There is a national registration number: she's not a foreigner.
Kang looks around. The guards are foreigners. The plaque on the interview room is in English. All those who pass in front of the room are foreigners. The sheet is in English. Even the pen he's holding is made overseas.
Kang Yoonsang: Hahaha… Well, this is…
Interviewer: You are the second anomalous instance we've found in Korea. Of course, we won't treat you like any other run-of-the-mill SCPs. You have much deeper knowledge than we anticipated. Some might help us a lot. Unlike what the other "Director" Yeon Soha worried, your presence is not meaningless at all. Your work cannot be ignored. Thanks to you, we could understand the region better and expect to establish appropriate containment protocols based on your potential instances. You're expected to be an advisor of sorts. In return, we just ask for your cooperation.
Kang bursts out laughing.
Kang Yoonsang: So, you're going to name us SCP-002-KO or something?
The interviewer tilts his head.
Interviewer: Hmm, I don't know. Do we have to put K and O after the object number? There should be an empty slot in the 13,000s, just like it has ever been.
Kang's smile quickly fades away.
The interviewer packed his belongings and stood up.
Interviewer: This took longer than expected. I'll see you around. Once again, we need your cooperation. Tell us whatever you need. In addition, this is a thanks to all of you from us. Thank you for helping us grow.
The interviewer bows and leaves the place.
Kang Yoonsang: This is… Yes, the Foundation… The Foundation is such a great place.
