Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-1639-JP-A must be terminated as soon as possible upon confirmation of its reappearance. SCP-1639-JP-B is to be contained in a low-threat item locker. If the reappearance of PoI-1639-JP-B is confirmed, he is to be detained, interviewed, and placed under observation.
Description: SCP-1639-JP is a collective designation for SCP-1639-JP-A and SCP-1639-JP-B. As of the writing, involvement of PoI-1639-JP-A and PoI-1639-JP-B has been confirmed.
The head of SCP-1639-JP-A. Reconstructed based on a blurry, long-distance video recording and SCP-1639-JP-B.
SCP-1639-JP-A is a large marine reptile approximately 20 meters in total length that possesses reality-bending abilities equivalent to Class III-IV, as well as spatial teleportation capabilities. Its webbed limbs and long tail enable it to swim at a normal speed of █.█ km/h, with a maximum momentary speed of ██.█ km/h. The shape of its head and teeth indicates carnivorous dietary habits, consistent with observed predation on large fish, pinnipeds, sirenians, and cetaceans. Fluctuations in Hume Level at the sea surface during hunting activities have been recorded, from which the aforementioned reality-bending ability classification has been assessed.
SCP-1639-JP-A is believed to have been historically sighted as a sea serpent. While the possible influence of preservation bias in the sources cannot be entirely ruled out, sightings have increased since the Middle Ages. This is considered attributable to the increased probability of encounters with Europeans, whose exploration of the open ocean intensified during the prosperity of the Vikings around the 9th to 11th centuries and the Age of Discovery from the 15th to 17th centuries. As mentioned earlier, SCP-1639-JP-A primarily preys on large marine animals and may not always attack humans; however, it frequently exercises its reality-bending abilities against marine vessels and coastal areas. In light of these circumstances, the first termination attempts were made in 1954 by various agencies including the Global Occult Coalition (GOC), all of which ended in failure.
SCP-1639-JP-B is the original copy of the original description paper and its undisclosed supplementary materials for the theropod dinosaur Spinosaurus aegyptiacus, published in 1915 by Ernst Stromer (designated as PoI-1639-JP-A). SCP-1639-JP-B is resistant to physical damage, and the supplementary materials contain an encrypted timeline and coordinates spanning from 1915 to 2022. This timeline and associated coordinates have been determined to correspond almost exactly with the spatio-temporal presence of SCP-1639-JP-A.
In 1995, SCP-1639-JP-B was donated to the Palaeontological Museum in Munich by the son of PoI-1639-JP-A. In 200█, a Foundation agent who infiltrated the museum to investigate SCP-4041 discovered its indestructibility; it was initially recovered and stored as an Anomalous Item before being reclassified as SCP-1639-JP-B based on references to SCP-1639-JP-A found in the supplementary materials. The numbering of these objects and Person of Interest (PoI) as of this writing adheres to the decisions made at that time.
Since many of the known S. aegyptiacus skeletons are highly fragmentary skulls, and because past reconstructions have been based on other dinosaurs belonging to the Spinosauridae family, it is difficult to discuss the relationship between SCP-1639-JP-A and Spinosaurus based on morphological characteristics1. The S. aegyptiacus holotype specimen BSP 1912 VIII 19, documented in SCP-1639-JP-B, was destroyed during World War II. While this incident has been linked to PoI-1639-JP-B, which was sighted in European countries between 1943 and 1944, his identity and connection to PoI-1639-JP-A remain unknown.
Historical Background: The following is archival information regarding SCP-1639-JP-A, B, and related incidents.
SCP-1639-JP-A: Active termination efforts were not carried out prior to the GOC’s eradication initiative due to technical issues, and the reliability and accuracy of historical records (particularly those from before the 19th century) are questionable. Major reality-altering incidents prior to 1954 include those documented in Boston in 1776, London in 1814, and Krakatoa in 1883; cover stories have been applied to these as the "Boston Tea Party," "River Thames Frost Fair," and "Major Volcanic Eruption," respectively. A complete list of SCP-1639-JP-A incidents can be found in a separate index.
On 1954/3/01, the GOC determined that SCP-1639-JP-A was responsible for the mass whale deaths and various marine accidents, and also observed Hume Level fluctuations occurring in conjunction with SCP-1639-JP-A's activities. GOC directed SCP-1639-JP to Bikini Atoll and launched an eradication initiative designating said site as the kill point, which failed due to SCP-1639-JP-A's reality-bending abilities. The U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, which had been providing logistical support for this operation, subsequently attempted to neutralize SCP-1639-JP-A using a high-yield thermonuclear bomb. This effort also failed because the direct impact on SCP-1639-JP-A was mitigated by its reality-altering abilities, while the resulting thermal energy and radioactive fallout exceeded expectations and caused radiation damage to the surrounding area and fishing vessels. The cover story "Castle Bravo" was applied to this incident.
On 1993/█/██, the Foundation detected the reappearance of SCP-1639-JP-A, which was observed to have sustained moderate burns on its back; these are presumed to be the result of the aforementioned 1954 thermonuclear attack. Additionally, severe head injuries of unknown cause were also noted. As SCP-1639-JP-A’s aggressiveness had increased, the Foundation attempted to poison it by conducting a limited release of arsenic into the ocean, though the reality-altering effects converted the arsenic into iron, rendering the operation a failure and allowing SCP-1639-JP-A to disappear. Since the manifested iron was distributed over a wider area than the original arsenic, the cover story "Medium-Scale Oceanic Iron Fertilization Trial" was implemented.
Ernst Stromer (PoI-1639-JP-A)
SCP-1639-JP-B: Records show that PoI-1639-JP-A arrived in Alexandria, Kingdom of Egypt, by steamship on 1910/11/09. After undergoing a two-day quarantine, he disembarked, obtained geological maps with the cooperation of the Geological Survey of Egypt, and formulated a plan for the excavation while local residents joined the expedition. The Egyptian Sahara Desert was under colonial rule by the British Empire at the time, and with World War I imminent, relations between Germany and Britain were steadily deteriorating. PoI-1639-JP-A, a citizen of the German Empire and reportedly from the southern part of the country, encountered significant difficulties in gaining access to the region.
PoI-1639-JP-A and his companions, who achieved entry into the region on 11/19, conducted a total of three excavation surveys. Despite one participant becoming absent during the second expedition due to a pre-existing medical condition, PoI-1639-JP-A began the third expedition on 1911/1/03. PoI-1639-JP-A’s journal notes that the excavation was subjected to harsh weather conditions, including intense direct sunlight and sandstorms. After the weather improved, the team resumed their work and, on 1/18, discovered parts of a dinosaur’s skull, spine, and ribcage. The dinosaur in question was a theropod later known as S. aegyptiacus; upon returning to Germany in February of that year, PoI-1639-JP-A described and named it as a new genus and species in 1915.
PoI-1639-JP-A created SCP-1639-JP-B in the course of describing S. aegyptiacus. As of writing, the online version of Stromer (1915) does not feature the Foundation emblem, suggesting that it was altered prior to publication. Its indestructibility is suspected to have been conferred at this time by PoI-1639-JP-A, who was concerned about its potential damage or loss.
Agt. Khan
PoI-1639-JP-A, B: In 1943/█/██, unauthorized access via then-unidentified technology was confirmed in the Foundation's database. This is believed to have been perpetrated by PoI-1639-JP-B, and intrusions into databases associated with intelligence agencies in various countries have been confirmed. Of particular note among these is the access to files related to Noor Inayat Khan. Agent Khan had infiltrated the Special Operations Executive (SOE) of the United Kingdom, whose primary mission was intelligence operations on the European mainland under Axis occupation; she operated as a double agent between the Foundation, the SOE, and a radio communications provider under the German military.
Winston Churchill
PoI-1639-JP-B appeared in France, which was then under Nazi German occupation, and made contact with Agent Khan by presenting a forged Foundation researcher identity card. PoI-1639-JP-B claimed to be acting on orders from O5 Council2 and instructed Khan to advise Winston Churchill, then the 61st Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, to carry out air raids on Munich. Churchill, who was in overall command at the Cabinet War Office, adopted Khan's recommendation and intensified the air raids on Munich that were already underway.
During the air raids of 1944/4/24 and 25, the Bavarian State Collection of Paleontology was destroyed and specimen BSP 1912 VIII 19 was lost, leading to a half-century-long stagnation in scientific research on Spinosaurus. As PoI-1639-JP-A had been urging the museum to relocate the fossils just before the air raids, he was suspected of colluding with the Allies. One basis for the suspicion was a letter received by PoI-1639-JP-A from a falsely identified sender. The letter was discovered during a search of his home by the Gestapo; its contents are as follows.
I hereby inform you that the measures have been completed.
As I'm sure you are already aware, your duties will now be assumed by me.
I wish you a fulfilling retirement.
Although PoI-1639-JP-A was spared imprisonment in a concentration camp as an anti-Nazi activist, the entire Stromer family was subjected to punitive measures, and his three sons serving in the German military were sent to the fiercest battlefronts. After the war, he reunited with the one son who had survived, and passed away on 1952/12/18.
Update 1: On 2022/1/15, SCP-1639-JP-A reappeared off the northwestern coast of the Kingdom of Tonga. Although SCP-1639-JP-A showed back burns as in 1993, no head injuries were observed. A Foundation vessel investigating the connection between the then-active Hunga Tonga-Hunga Haʻapai volcano and SCP-1437-JP was attacked, resulting in 78% of the hull being damaged and the deaths of ██ personnel due to reality-altering effects.
During this time, an individual matching the facial features recorded by Agent Khan was reported to have appeared on the vessel, suggesting that he was PoI-1639-JP-B. Both SCP-1639-JP-A and PoI-1639-JP-B vanished following a large-scale volcanic eruption, and no subsequent reappearances have been confirmed.
Of the researchers conducting the investigation, Researchers Smith and Müller were survived. Both claimed to have been rescued by PoI-1639-JP-B and were interviewed at a later date.
Interview Log 1
Subject: Researcher Smith
Interviewer: Senior Researcher Sotohara (hereinafter referred to as "Rsr. Sotohara" for brevity)Note: The interview was conducted in English.
<Begin Log>Rsr. Sotohara: So, I’d like to ask you about SCP-1639-JP-A and PoI-1639-JP-B that you witnessed, including the circumstances at the time.
Rsr. Smith: Yes. It was… while I was conducting seafloor coring surveys with my colleagues. As we were removing a rock core from the equipment, the entire ship was violently shaken. I’ve experienced several earthquakes since being assigned to Japan, and it felt similar to those. The equipment was collapsing all around us, and it was impossible to stay on my feet. I was completely preoccupied with protecting myself.
Rsr. Sotohara: That vibration wasn’t caused by volcanic activity or the resulting changes in sea level, correct?Rsr. Smith: No, it wasn’t. There was loud rumbling, but no volcanic plume had risen yet.
Rsr. Sotohara: I see. Please continue.
Rsr. Smith: I ducked under my desk and saw the hull being twisted. Support pillars and walls began to warp with this sickening popping sound, and I saw with my own eyes how they were stretched out longer and longer, as if they’d forgotten their limits. By the time the floor was illuminated against the blue sky, the shattering metal and warped wood were closing in on me. I tried to escape, but apparently, a piece of metal had severed a tendon in my leg, and the sensation only came to me belatedly. The pain was numb, surely due to my panic, but my leg had become utterly useless.
Rsr. Smith: That was when PoI-1639-JP-B appeared. He was heavily armed. Likely carrying a portable SRA as well. Appearance-wise, he looked to be in his late 20s to early 30s. He stepped in front of us as if to stop the floor from deforming further, and as he scanned the area — amidst the heat haze of clashing realities, he was staring right at us. Though it must have been only for a split second.
Rsr. Sotohara: And PoI-1639-JP-B rescued you all.
Rsr. Smith: Yes. As I’ve already reported, PoI-1639-JP-B splinted my leg and wrapped it in bandages. He also disinfected my other injuries and stopped the bleeding. His movements were so smooth, almost as if he already knew what was going on. Then he said, "This ship is going to sink." He instructed us to put on the life jackets he’d brought and jump into the sea, and then said, "If you die, it’s all over."
Rsr. Sotohara: Indeed, his words and actions did seem as if he had prior knowledge of this incident. What do you think “it’s all over” means?
Rsr. Smith: I’m not sure. Müller spoke with him for a bit, but I was still in shock. I couldn’t quite grasp his intent… I’m sorry.
Rsr. Sotohara: I see. So after that, you jumped into the sea with Researcher Müller?
Rsr. Smith: Yes, she supported my body. PoI-1639-JP-B handed me some buoyant objects, so I clung to them and threw myself into the water. I lost sight of him after that, but beyond the ship fading into the mist, I saw SCP-1639-JP-A thrashing about. Its skull appeared to be melting from the inside out. Even with that, I can’t say for certain if it was dead. The sound of the eruption and the shockwave drowned out any certainty, and by the time I opened my eyes, it was no longer in my sight. Might have escaped via teleportation.
Rsr. Sotohara: I see, I've now got the picture. Were there any other noteworthy events?
Rsr. Smith: I don't believe there were any in particular.
Rsr. Sotohara: Understood. If you remember anything else, please contact me again.

Interview Log 2
Subject: Researcher Müller
Interviewer: Senior Researcher Sotohara (hereinafter referred to as "Rsr. Sotohara" for brevity)Note: The interview was conducted in English.
<Begin Log>Rsr. Sotohara: Now, I’d like to ask you about SCP-1639-JP-A and PoI-1639-JP-B you encountered.
[Omitted, as details overlap with Researcher Smith’s testimony]
Rsr. Sotohara: Researcher Smith mentioned that you exchanged words with PoI-1639-JP-B.
Rsr. Müller: Yes. He certainly did help us, but I wasn’t sure how he’d deal with SCP-1639-JP-A… When I asked him, he gave only a vague answer. I don’t remember the exact words, but I believe he said… "I’ll take care of the cleanup. Its traces will not remain on the surface of history, but will be buried in the darkness of the paradox. The world has no need to know its true nature."
Rsr. Sotohara: [A few seconds of silence] It’s hard to interpret, but I don’t think he meant merely to suggest tampering with records.
Rsr. Müller: Yes, I thought the same thing. As I stood there dumbfounded, he immediately smiled at me. "Don’t worry," he said. "These are the tracks you’ve laid on a fixed timeline. The answer is already in sight."
Rsr. Sotohara: The answer is already in sight…?
Rsr. Müller: Yes. …I couldn’t quite grasp the full meaning of what he said. Smith was rushing me, and PoI-1639-JP-B had already headed off.
Rsr. Sotohara: Understood. …We may need to review the known anomalies. Did PoI-1639-JP-B say anything else?
Rsr. Müller: Oh, just one thing. It’s not about the content itself, though.
Rsr. Sotohara: What is it?
Rsr. Müller: He spoke in German to me, and only to me. With a southern accent, no less.
<End Log>
Closing Statement: Follow-up investigations and monitoring of Researchers Smith and Müller are scheduled.
Update 2: On 2022/2/██, A notebook believed to be the diary of PoI-1639-JP-A was discovered in a warehouse of an antiquarian bookstore in Bavaria. What appears to be a farewell note related to SCP-1639-JP was found at its end. The following is a translation of the text from German.
I saw my great-grandmother again the other day.
As always, she was frolicking around in the body of a young girl.
While the occupying forces marched with the clatter of their military boots and Volkswagens drove by, she was running around innocently, her knees covered in dirt.
It’s such a strange feeling.
My great-grandmother, whom I’d only ever seen in photographs, and whose time-worn skin and opaque white eyes had left such a strong impression on me.
And yet here I am, watching her grow up right before my eyes.
She will live longer than I do and witness the era when our homeland is reunited once more.
When I received a letter from myself, I finally realized it was truly over.
My son returned from the battlefield, and I was able to spend the rest of my life with him as a person living in this era.
If history plays out as it should, the time will come soon.
It was not that bad.
