SCP-1555-KO

Item #: SCP-1555-KO

Object Class: Ticonderoga

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-1555-KO cannot be contained. However, the results of SCP-1555-KO can be sufficiently explained through non-anomalous means, and containment is therefore unnecessary. Due to this, SCP-1555-KO has been classified as Ticonderoga.

Description: SCP-1555-KO is a phenomenon in which the probability of an object landing on its "back side" becomes anomalously adjusted whenever the object is "flipped." An object being "flipped" refers to a change of state in which the "front side" and "back side" exchange positions, while "front side" and "back side" refer to two sections divided by a particular plane of symmetry. The criteria by which a side is recognized as the "front" are unknown, though the phenomenon appears to follow conventional human classification standards.

When SCP-1555-KO manifests, the object being "flipped" will deterministically orient itself toward its "back side." Once the phenomenon occurs, the "flip" toward the "back side" becomes a fixed event, and any external interference cannot alter this outcome. This phenomenon can only be identified by comparing the theoretical expected value of a given trial against the observed results obtained in practice.

SCP-1555-KO manifests with a probability of 1 in 1000 each time a "flip" is performed. Due to this extremely low probability, SCP-1555-KO is capable of remaining outside containment without violating the Veil. For example, one may consider an experiment using coin tosses to calculate an expected probability. The expected value calculated from such an experiment is as follows:

(1)
\begin{align} P_{Tails} = \frac{1}{1000}\times 1\ + \frac{999}{1000}\times \frac{1}{2} = \frac{1001}{2000}=0.5005 \end{align}

Compared to the non-anomalous expected value of 0.5, an error of 0.0005 emerges; however, this deviation is minor enough to be attributed to the asymmetry of the coin itself or to human error on the part of the individual performing the toss.

Experiments involving objects capable of manifesting SCP-1555-KO are currently being conducted in Laboratory 501 of Automated Research Wing-03, Site-21K. The following is a list of objects that have been confirmed to be capable of manifesting SCP-1555-KO. Similar categories of objects have been omitted.

Object Back Side
Coin The side not stamped with a figure or any equivalent symbol
Card The side without printed markings
Ddakji The side with a flat surface
Yut Stick The side with a flat surface
Dice The side engraved with "6"1
Toast The side with more "crisp"
Water Bottle The side opposite to the cap
Cat (Model) The model's "back"

Any additional objects confirmed capable of manifesting SCP-1555-KO are to be added to this report.

Addendum 1555-KO-A: On 2025/07/26, evidence suggesting consecutive manifestations of SCP-1555-KO was identified at ███ Postpartum Care Center. The subject of the "flip" was ███ (0), who had been lying in a crib. It is presumed that SCP-1555-KO manifested when the subject instinctively rolled their body over, an action interpreted as a "flip" by the phenomenon. CCTV footage confirmed that the anomaly manifested four consecutive times. The probability of such an event occurring is approximately 1 in 1,000,000,000,000.

As a result, ███ was unable to reorient back to their "front side" position and subsequently suffocated to death. Discussions regarding containment procedures for SCP-1555-KO have since resumed.
