Item #: SCP-057-J
Object Class: Pending (He might hit it again)
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-057-J is kept in a standard 10m x 10m x 10m containment chamber at Site-19. The chamber has been retrofitted with $4.2M worth of state-of-the-art acoustic dampening foam. This foam is entirely performative and achieves nothing.
Under no circumstances are personnel to confiscate SCP-057-J-2's mallet, restrain the entity, or block access to the gong. Disruption of its routine results in the entity exhibiting hostile behavior and striking the gong repeatedly until too exhausted to continue.
Description: SCP-057-J consists of two distinct components:
- SCP-057-J-1: A solid bronze gong measuring 4 meters in diameter, suspended from an iron frame.
- SCP-057-J-2: An entity resembling a small green goblin, approximately 0.8 meters in height, wearing a burlap loincloth. It carries a heavy wooden mallet roughly half its height and body weight.
SCP-057-J-2 spends the majority of its time sleeping or pacing around SCP-057-J-1. At unpredictable intervals ranging from 12 minutes to 8 months, SCP-057-J-2 will approach SCP-057-J-1, wind up with maximum effort, and strike the gong once.
Upon impact, SCP-057-J-1 produces an acoustic ring measured at approximately 85 dB at the source. The primary anomalous effect occurs instantaneously upon impact.
The sound of the gong strike is perceived simultaneously and at identical volume (85 dB) by every living human being on Earth, regardless of location.
The strike is directly responsible for a 3% global increase in dropped glassware and traffic disputes.
Dr. Fritz Humboldt's Note:
"I hate that fucking goblin. Last week it rang at three in the morning while I was in REM sleep. I fell out of bed. I reviewed the security footage. Following the strike, the entity looked directly into the camera and performed a celebratory jig."
