Item #: SCP-050-EX

Object Class: Explained

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-050-EX is stored in a standard Non-Anomalous Item Locker at Site-75. Viewing of SCP-050-EX is strictly prohibited.

Description: SCP-050-EX are eight film reels containing 'Lights in the Sky', a 1951 North Korean melodrama propaganda film directed by Woon-gyu Na and produced by Korean Art Film Studio, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's primary state-ran film institute.

The film follows a widow named Son Yeon-sil, played by Moon Ye-bong, who falls in love with a farmer, played by Woon-gyu Na, during the Korean War.

SCP-050-EX was previously thought to have induced the following ideals in those who viewed all eight reels in succession:

  • Sympathy for the citizens, military and governing bodies of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea);
  • The belief that the United States and the United Nations Command were the agitators of the Korean War;
  • The belief that the United States and the United Nations Command committed atrocities to the people of Korea during the Korean War;
  • The belief that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea were the victims of the Korean War.

Subjects not briefed on SCP-050-EX universally refered to the item as the cause of these beliefs. Amnestic treatment targeting memories of SCP-050-EX was believed to be effective in neutralising all anomalous activity.

Discovery: SCP-050-EX was discovered in 1973 during an inventory of items seized from the Korean People's Committee for the Abnormal (GoI-822). The item was hypothesised to be one of many anomalies created by the KPCA for the purpose of establishing an army of highly obedient paranatural soldiers with which to establish global domination.1

Its anomalous nature was proposed by Junior Researchers H. Jones and G. Westbrook, who traced the origin of their growing communist sympathies to a staff screening of SCP-050-EX. Personnel present for said screening were subsequently interrogated, all revealing anomalous beliefs linked to SCP-050-EX.

The object was then transferred to the Department of Continuity for further research.
