In dedication to all that could not be themselves throughout history.

More Than Secret Lovers (1917)
Joseph Nordstrom (1892-1979)
Oil on thaumic canvas
Donated by Dakila Reyes, founding AWCY? member
A depiction of Tiffany Beckwith (1845-1913) and Thomas Tattersall (1852-1902). Canvas disappears when not observed. Beckwith and Tattersall were pioneers of transmogrification and glamour magic, the first recorded individuals in England to successfully transition without the aid of fairies or Nälkän flesh-crafting. Though they were not allowed to reveal their transitioned bodies (or identities) in their day-to-day lives, both recorded in their diaries that their private excursions were where they felt safest to be themselves.
There is a note on the back of the canvas.
In dedication to all that could not be themselves throughout history.
In dedication to the woman who gave this to me that wishes to remain unnamed. I know you almost burned this piece; it is not your fault. You may have found this ugly, and I do not blame you for that one bit. You were barely a month into your transition—crying is natural, and you will find yourself doing that more often now.
I hope you one day find peace with your new body and home, and that you do not destroy our history from your own self-hatred.
