When I was a child, I thought I didn't belong anywhere. I felt like a piece in the wrong puzzle. It took years for me to find my place in the world. But I did. And that's what matters.

9157 was the result of an insane DumbCon prompt.

I thought Ayn Rand was the name of a made-up character. I didn't know who Ayn Rand was until I got to receive critique on my draft, with a full thought-out outline already in my head. In order to dodge the chaos, I decided to rip off her name and give it to my own made-up character; thus, Ann Randall was born.

9157 has multiple meanings. I wanted it to be as both objective and up to interpretation. To me, the author, 9157 is about the feeling of bliss after you realize you truly belong in the place you are in at the moment. It's about letting go of a made-up life of lies and ridiculous expectations, and embrace who you truly are, where you're truly meant to be. It's inspired by both my experience as a queer woman and as a Literature and Culture college student; both of these aspects are a part of who I truly am. Hiding them or trying to repress them would be lying to myself.

I did a lot of research on both Ayn Rand's works and Scottish mythology and folklore for this one. I learned so much. Never underestimate how much you can learn by writing a silly SCP on stuff you don't know.

This was also my first successful SCP. Before posting it, I had spent 6 months of trial and error with an idea I still have, of learning, reading, and engaging with authors and friends I admire. Not a single minute was spent in vain. So yes, 9157 is very special to me.

9503 is about many things: perfectionism, self-sabotage, ambition, human belief on divine punishment, greed. It's also about that inevitable feeling of falling behind even though you know you can get up, even though you know you're falling above others anyway. It's also about clinging onto that thing that makes you feel alive, which inevitably takes its own magic away when it destroys you from the inside.

Leo Baxter was inspired by USA figure skater Ilia Malinin and his tremendous fail during his Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics free program in Men's Singles. I watched it live on TV and, although I was cheering for other skaters (namely Yuma Kagiyama, my favorite male figure skater), I couldn't help but to see his expression of "lost it all" as something sadly fascinating. It ended up inspiring my whole idea for this contest, which I had brewing in my head for over two months.

Leo is also a lot of things. He's the man who tried to play God and ended up falling into misery. He's Icarus. He's Lucifer. He's a normal human being.

+ Author's Commentary (Adult Content Warning)

I was initially only going to post one piece for Pridefest 2026, but the process of building such a narrative was so tiring I decided to venture into one of my literary passions, poetry, to take a breather. Writing poetry is somewhat freeing to me, as I grew up reading and reciting a lot of poetry, and its oftentimes esoteric nature really helps my creativity flow.

This poem is, first and foremost, about being sapphic. As a sapphic myself, I remember feeling hints of shame and embarrassment when interiorizing my attraction towards women, back when I hadn't realized I was bi yet. Being sapphic, initially a temptation, became freedom.

Secondly, it's about the inherently alluring and contranatura (against nature) aspect of vampirism. I LOVE vampires. And one thing I specifically love about vampires is how they signify sexual "transgression" (i.e. bisexuality, overall queerness) and how their bloodlust emphasizes this. Drinking blood is frequently equivalent to having sex, namely due to the almost erotic nature of this act (for instance, the 'petit coup' (the 'little sip,' the 'small cup'), as Lestat de Lioncourt puts it in Interview With the Vampire (2022)).
