DEPARTMENT OF DESIGN

Iconography Division

Overview

The primary purpose of the Iconography Division is to suppress, record, study, and utilize anomalous imagery and symbolism in service of the Foundation's mission.

Due to the sheer size and scope of this purpose, the Iconography Division is comprised of members with specializations in fields such as Memetics‌ ‌and‌ ‌Infohazards, Thaumaturgy, Tactical Theology, Alchemy‌, Occult Containment, Anart History, Noospherics and Semiospherics.

Ideas, concepts and messages have power - and symbols are carriers of that power. Be it alchemical, thaumaturgic or memetic, these vessels of meaning lay at the edge of normalcy and the anomalous.
Anyone can draw an image, but creating one that can peer beyond the Veil would barely take more than an accident. Suffice to say, it has probably happened before.

That's is why we're here: to control this aspect of humanity that has always been, and will continue to be, a part of our reality.
Welcome to the Division - we still have about 100,000 years' worth of backlog to draw from.

Secure. Contain. Protect.

- Sonia Crowsworth, Head of Iconography Division

TRUNCATED SELECTION OF PROJECTS

PROJECT ALETHEIA

Project Co-developer(s): ████████████ ████████, Counterconceptual Division

ABSTRACT: Project Aletheia encodes selected data into a highly compressed, personalized glyph - from which information can be instantly absorbed by means of visual contact.
Project Aletheia is designed as a failsafe against anomalies exhibiting deleterious effect on memory in ways that could prevent effective containment.

The memetic key for decoding the data is unique to each individual to prevent infohazard contamination and is built on Memetics and Infohazards Division's Mandatory Memetic Trigger Implant open standard.

Example of an Aletheia-generated glyph tailored to Agent Q. Renfield, containing their basic identity, critical memories, and relevant mission informations. alet.png

RISKS AND DRAWBACKS:

  • Repeated uses of Aletheia glyphs have shown to increase cases of dissociation, migraines and seizures.
  • The current generation of Aletheia glyphs have limited information capacity.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: Project Aletheia's primary use case has been superseded by modern mnestics and has been placed on indefinite hold.

PROJECT AEGIS

Project Co-developer(s): Office‌ ‌of‌ ‌The‌ ‌Director‌ ‌of‌ ‌Task‌ ‌Forces, Metaphysics‌ ‌Department‌ ‌

ABSTRACT: Building on the foundations of Project Aletheia, Project Aegis has been implemented as Task Force sigils containing engineered cognitohazards in order to increase MTF's general efficiency in the field.

The embedded cognitohazards are activated when the metaphysical condition of being employed under the corresponding Task Force is fulfilled.
The exact effects of Project Aegis differ for every Task Force, and are under purview of the Office‌ ‌of‌ ‌The‌ ‌Director‌ ‌of‌ ‌Task‌ ‌Forces.

Example of a Project Aegis MTF sigil. The effects of embedded cognitohazards include:

  • Extreme loyalty towards the Ethics Committee.
  • Partially suppressed self-preservation instincts.
  • Strengthened mental aptitude.
  • Heightened foreign cognitohazard resistance.
  • Subdued sense of pain.
  • Posthumous memory retention.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: After the implementation of Project Aegis, the average success rate of MTF deployments has increased by 18%. Motion to expand its scope is under consideration.

PROJECT KALLINIKOS

Project Co-developer(s): Department of Temporal Anomalies, Memetics‌ ‌and‌ ‌Infohazards‌ ‌Division, Ethics Committee

PROJECT FARII

Project Co-developer(s): Foundation Ascension Program, Human Resources

ABSTRACT: Project Farii is a method of accelerated knowledge acquisition designed for the Foundation Ascension Program as an alternative way to fulfill the Foundation's need for qualified research personnel - especially in the increasingly diverse fields of anomalous sciences.

Project Farii has two components: The first is a combination of traditional and cognitohazard-based conditioning to make the subject's mental state more pliable and receptive to rapid information intake and decoding, based on Project Aegis.
The second is the transmission of large amount of knowledge through visuocognitive memetic implant, based on Project Aletheia.

RISKS AND DRAWBACKS:

  • Initial trial runs had a 68% fatality rate among all subjects resulting from seizure and/or aneurysm.
  • Several subjects experienced nausea and acute memory loss.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:
On account of its rate of failure, Project Farii is currently suspended until further analysis can be done.
