The GOC's Assessment Teams exist to investigate and monitor parathreats. These units operate covertly in the field to obtain intelligence so that an appropriate response can be coordinated, which may include the deployment of a Strike Team. Although Assessment Teams are not intentionally sent out to eliminate parathreats, their members are generally armed, and are authorised to respond with lethal force if engaged in the field. While the size of an Assessment Team varies depending on their specialty, most are small groups of fewer than a dozen operatives. Although many members of Assessment Teams have military backgrounds, civilian specialists and undercover agents are recruited as required.
Assessment Teams are given a three digit identifier, usually beginning with a "7", accompanied by a unique callsign. Assessment Teams with their own distinctive unit insignia typically use a cartouche (oval) shape, emblazoned with their Team number. Assessment Teams do not usually have a unit motto or slogan.
