Anyone who has programming skill and web design skill, please let us know. we'll bounce ideas around, and see what we can do.
I'll see if I can whip up a sample login page at least. Then, on the 'dropped' documents, maybe we could have the login info scrawled hastily in the margins?
Far2, does everything you touch turn to gold?
"SCP-███ (codename: far2) is to be contained within a gold-plated room of dimensions eight meters by seven meters (8m x 7m). All that SCP-███ touches apparently turns to gold, and thus he is not allowed contact with any other SCP or personnel. It has been suggested to use SCP-███ to neutralize SCP-682."
Has anyone here actually purchased or sufficiently reserved scp.com?
Remember that the domain name could be taken from under our noses at any time by a completely unrelated organization, unless it is actually owned by someone here.
scp.com and scp.net appear to have already been registered, although they're not being used. I don't know if it was someone associated with us or not.
scpfoundation.com is available, should someone decide we need it.
I have limited Java skill, middle-level VB.net skill, and medium HTML skills. I am willing to help site programming in my free time if there are fruits for my labor.
I do believe that a website would be more effective than a wiki.
it would allow us to make people think that it's place is actually a restricted site that they happened to stumble upon.
and we can either continue to have a wiki to use as a forum ground. Or we can have all of the stuff that would give away the illusion show up only after logging in (i.e: forums, member pages, etc.)
I've got web design skill if this project is still being discussed.
Really? What kind of skills do you have Waxx?
Most of my knowledge relates to designing them graphically and coding them into functioning pages via HTML and CSS. I'm not so good with Java and other scripting languages but I'd be happy to show you some samples later if you're curious.
Can't say for sure but I've got a friend who hosts all my websites. He usually only charges me about $5 a month, but naturally I can't guarantee something like that. I will talk to him and see what he offers.
Figure on around $10 for a domain name, as well.
Hi there:
i have a "bit" of experience about this matter.
Pros:
Php and mysql is a must, cause they are damn cheap (a hosting can cost less that $7 x month), a dns is about $20 x year or so.
So the entire project can be about $200-$300 bucks x a couple of years.
And for the system, we can use a pre-created webpage, a seasoned webmaster can install one of this page in minutes. There are plenty of choices, mostly for free. Fine tunning a pre-created webpage can take some time (for example adding a personalized style or populating with datas).
Cons:
The system must be keep update almost daily, otherwise it can be hacked in no time.
Forums are resource hog and some hosting kicks you out if you are overusing their resources.
