So after writing a tale for Cy as a pinch hitter this last holiday gift exchange, I decided I wanted to try my hand at doing a GoI format set in the same canon the tale was. I even lifted some ideas to boot!

Anyway, big thanks to my critters and a special thanks to stormbreath for making me aware of this absolutely wonderful css (and Silberescher for making it in the first place!), which is a lovely compromise between the typical MCD colors and the black you often see on BM content.

Also, it wouldn't be a Nico article without Wilson's Wildlife in it in some capacity.

Excellent to see it up! I wasn't sure if you were going to find a CSS compromise or not and figured you'd just go plain MC&D. I like the result I see.

Not exactly. :P

MC&D were essentially running a high-scale puppy mill. Notice how they say;

XX items deemed unsatisfactory and disposed of.

Also! Remember, they still have a good number in stock now, and they are essentially gifting Wilson's a White Elephant as a 'screw you' for ruining their plans. :P

I agree with Nico. MC&D, especially the Darks, are very pragmatic. Acting like a gangster will get you in a gang war. Wilson's is allied with The Foundation, so it would be very stupid for MC&D to antagonize them. MC&D's use of violence and other immoral behaviour is precise and surgical, only done when it's the best of all available options. But whenever it's more profitable to be nice, they're perfectly civil.

Interesting to see Robert Carter up to something. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this may be the first thing he's appeared in since Wills and Ways.

I think that's the case. It was originally going to be Iris, but stormbreath brought up the point that Iris can't be involved in everything.

Hmmm…

I like the core idea, and the general direction you take the article but I feel like there’s not enough of an effort from MC&D. While I like the idea that good press is important, I feel like there are more clever ways of dealing with the WWS problem, like trying to disctract the media with pointing out connections between WWS and the Foundation, or maybe by attempting to reframe the product as more of a utility than as a pet, or something. It felt like there were more options than the “wipe out wilson’s” method that they ignored, which makes them giving up at the end feel somewhat laconic for MC&D.

Just overall I would’ve wanted to see more struggle and more MC&D sliminess. Not traditional slime but just some other attempt to quelch the counter campaign before giving up to show how cornered they really felt.

I always wondered how MCD would react to the Broken Masquerade, based on this line on their hub page

After all, if the veil of secrecy were to break, their trinkets would become worthless; their business would crumple and dissolve.

I thought it would be much worse. But it looks like they are doing quite good being the family friendly puppy sellers.

I feel like the purpose of this tale gets lost somewhere, and personally, I don’t find it entertaining.

It looks like I’m in the minority, and if most people enjoyed this article, then it’s likely a good one for most readers. It’s just not for me.
