And of course, help with the subject itself is always welcome.

This is super weird. Contact me, this is EXACTLY like a short story I shared with several friends of mine around this time period and the character matches a discription of me in real life. Its all a little too odd.
+1
Almost like upvoting myself though.
I also really enjoyed this SCP file
The thread you are replying to is over 5 years old.
Please don't necropost in threads.
Hey, just out of curiosity, why not? I mean it's obviously silly, and bad nettiquette, but is there some other reason?
May i use this in one of my scps im creating?
It is generally a bad idea to rely on other people's scips in your own work, especially a Series I skip. May I ask how you instead to use 507 in your SCP?
That was actually really good, let alone for a first try. Good job dude. I hope you enjoy it here.
Perhaps a public log is in order, to document more of the various dimensions Scp-507 has visited. List some more "what ifs" of the Scp universe.
It is worth noting that SCP-507 is allowed a computer with an Internet connection in its room… This is a result of SCP-507s persistently clean record, and the implication that if SCP-507 was ever going to be a security leak it would have used its faux-teleportation powers to do so already.
No. No, no, no. That kind of argument is just not going to fly with any Foundation security officer who deserves his/her job. Not ever.
Not that I think it's a bad article. This is a top-quality addition to the SCP culture. If this is your first addition, I'll need to keep an eye out for your future work.
I always thought that bit was pushing it a little, but when writing this guy up I went with it because I thought it fit my idea for 507's… unique status.
Technically speaking, 507s ability makes it one of the Foundation's largest theoretical security breaches. 507 wouldn't even have to plan ahead if it wanted to "escape" - it just would start walking in one direction after a shift, and never come back. As long as 507 has a pulse, it is giving someone in the security department heart murmurs.
So why is 507 still around?
First and foremost, reality hopping is a rather exploitable power. If the Foundation could find a way to emulate 507's ability in a more controllable manner… Yeah. Even as it stands right now, through a few neat additions 507 has been indirectly responsible for both retrieving an SCP and preventing the possible spread of a rather nasty fungi.
But on a more personal level, 507 is to the Foundation as a puppy is to its master. The Foundation took it out of an asylum, and into what it perceives to be the paranormal lovers equivilant to candyland. The Foundation also serves as the only location it considers somewhat safe; it's filled with people that care about its wellbeing (if only as a test subject,) and the heavy fortifications are usually of some help in the more apocalyptic realities.
Of course there's the constant threat of horrible death/mutilation, not excluding by the Foundation itself, but 507's affliction has made it very used to this concept. There's an interview somewhere around here where (a) 507 essentially states that it knows the Foundation would terminate it if it stepped out of line/became useless, and is perfectly fine with that.
The end result of all this is an SCP who has complied willingly and enthusiastically with whatever the Foundation has required of it, with no signs of insubordination whatsoever, and has actually volunteered for extra duties. An SCP that has kept this up for so long that it more closely resembles a low-level employee than a captive, and apparently knows some agents well enough to give them gifts based on their hobbies. An SCP who's containment procedure more-or-less says "If it's moved somewhere else, don't worry. It'll walk back to us. There is no other place where it would like to be."
To sum it up, at the point of its article being added to the database 507 is thoroughly and completely the Foundation's female dog. There's a better chance of Foundation janitors leaking sensitive information than SCP-507.
And, y'know, there's probably a guy who's assigned to search through 507's internet history for reasons to shoot it in the back of the head.
I still think unrestricted internet access is more then a bit too much along the lines of an "oooh look at how nice the SCP is."
Give him internet access, but make it clearly stated that he's observed at all times, and that every session is recorded (whether they are really recorded or not), and don't let the computer be in the SCP's private space.
Sounds good; I'll work those changes in after I get some sleep.
Also, anyone interested in Ramming Stone's proposal up there? I suppose I could eventually get around to making the "full list" an actual link with a starter set of realities if the concept merits enough interest.
Very interested. Personally, I find the "smiling" man to be one of the more unnerving things on the wiki.
"Back so soon?" shudder.
Smiling man sounds cool…Mind if I borrow him for my SCP if I need ta?
It's not him, but something else…It may not take off though…
i would really like to see a public log under the supervision of pennywise (they having the final say in what would be accepted into the log)
Dude, this is BY FAR my favorite SCP. I don't know why exactly. Maybe it is because of his amiable nature, or the fact that he can be "teleported" at the most unreasonable times.
Somebody should write more about him. A story, an interview, a test log….. A series??? Just kidding about the last part…. sort of.
It would be so awesome if he could "teleport" to 808's dimension!!
… He is teh awesome sauce.
It could be argued that the numerous perks are the Foundations method to try and keep him sane.
In fact I think any future stuff should try to cover either his deteriorating mental health, or explain how he is keeping sane.
After all imagine if at any random second you could, with no warning, be instantly teleported to a dark room with a terrifying smiling man (not to mention endless other nightmares). I'd think I'd start to lose it fairly quickly.
After one of his shifts, he tried to kill himself. Due to the reality, he had been in had been so perfect he became depressed. I feel bad for him, due to his encounters with entities such as the smiling man and a dimension full of spiders.
Something just occured to me.
Anyone who is touching him is also shifted, and presumbly this would also work on the return trip.
Which makes this guy a massive security risk, as each shift has the potential for the appearance of a keter-class entity, at an unpredicatable place or time, most probably in the middle of a foundation facility.
May be low probabilty but the security chief must be having nightmares.
Also is there anything in place to stop him reappearing in the middle of another SCP containment area?
Maybe he should be instructed not to move significant distance during a shift period.
A thought: SCP-507 could be one of multiple. Just something that could potentially be hinted, but not stated?
Perhaps the reason that he's allowed access to the internet is partially to confirm for him that this is his home dimension.
If he lands in another INTACT foundation occasionally, it's also plausible that he be kept alive for the purpose of interdimensional information sharing.
Of course, with each new foundation comes a new set of explanations required: and if the holding cell is being used for someone else….
Just wondered.. Is the smiling man in the dark a reference to Jack Empty / Mr. Deadeyes / The Hollow Man /Leg Breaker /The Devil's Grin / etc from the Holders?
I was contemplating having 508 show him followed by 507 rushing in to stop the experiment, but wasn't sure if I was spotting the reference correctly…
I'm not sure anyone knows that. Pennywise the Clown, the original author, hasn't been around since the last post above.
Speaking of Pennywise, by the way, a check of his/her contributions revealed a rather striking interview regarding 507. It's not linked on the SCP article proper. I'm fixing that — if anyone objects, let me know or just revert.
I thought he was Half-Life's G-Man…
