It's great to see a Foundation researcher go off the rails in such a thoroughly sympathetic, human way. The "cold not cruel" balance sometimes becomes too much to bear even if someone doesn't get compromised by an anomaly or lose track of their conscience entirely "for the greater good." I think Ritter was convinced (as was I) that King Max had absolutely no intention of giving away his fellow nobles - he just wanted to amuse himself and see how far his jailors would go to appease him.

Dr. Ritter certainly lived up to his name. A fitting end for one of the more revolting SCPs.
