I really want to like this one. I'm a huge advocate for net-based anomalies, and the idea of a tumblr skip puts a huge grin on my face.
However, I'm down voting this article. It has a lot of great concepts in place, but it also suffers from some major flaws, and I really want to see it reworked to its full potential. As it stands, the article's structure, formatting, and tone feel really sloppy.
- Why is the SCP the blog? SCP designations are given to anomalies, and there doesn't appear to be anything anomalous at all about the blog itself.
- As the foundation agent so kindly pointed out, there's no suggestion that the Foundation has any evidence that -1 is anomalous. Lampshade hanging doesn't make up for the sheet nonsensical logic at play here.
- It's enough of a stretch that the Foundation is simply assuming -1 is anomalous. The idea of them making the unfathable leap of just assuming that -2 are anomalous is insane. All of the described behaviors simply sound like par for the tumblr course.
- If anything here should be designated an SCP, it's the geographical anomaly. Use that as the main skip and give everything else as background information.
- The sequence at the end is written in a really weird way. It feels more like a tale than an addendum. Instead of jumping between blocked quotes and narration, why not put the whole thing in the simple, standard video transcript log we use almost everywhere else?
EDIT: June 2014 PeppersGhost is a big grump. His criticism still stands, but this is original and I enjoyed it, so it deserves an upvote.
