I put some stuff on my Experiment with SCP-317 awhile back, and realizes it was making assumptions on it's nature. Just wanted to ask: Does anyone have any objections with it?
My objection is to the PDA's being unchanged except for new data-type SCP being on them. SCP-914 is very random, and i think the chances of it leaving the physical make-up unchanged every time is astronomically low. Possibly one test would result in a new device containing or emitting a data-type SCP, but i think the others would be random changes.
You made some assumptions about 732. It is a plague on records, not an artificial intelligence.
Gears: Thanks for pointing that out, and you've just given me a new idea or three- after all, if it reacts strangely to SCP-808, who's to say that it might not have similarly strange reactions to other SCPs?
Then I thought, what would happen if you put one of these 317-containing PDAs into 914-with 808 there? What would happen to 317 as a result?
But as for your concern, I did realize you were right, and I am putting a note in there that points out the strangeness of this, as well as putting another test in there that ends very strangely.
Scrat: The way I see it, while it certainly has some traits in common with a virus, so does 317. And on that note, it seems to me that they both have more in common with an AI program. I believe that 732 is more of an out of control program that spreads like a virus, yet otherwise seems to be an AI gone mad- but that's just my opinion, hindered by the fact that I generally suck with words. I would like to hear what others think on the subject, as well.
I thought there was a ban on use of 148. How'd anyone get the OK to play with 2 m2 of the stuff?

It seems you used nine(9) CDs, rather than eight. Unless you re-used the one that got turned into "Queens greatest hits: Vol. 5".
Has anyone thought about taking photocopies of all lab notes on this SCP, putting them into the input chamber with setting "fine" or "very fine," and seeing whether we might luck into having this SCP produce a manual on its own functions?

I'm sure there's one or two smart buggers among the humanoid SCPs that could take a stab at translation. Then again, the Foundation would have to be trusting them with that kind of vital information.
No, it'll be in a well-known language, just totally undecyphered (e.g. Linear A)

I intend to write up the experiment, though Dr. Gears has now done something of his own along the lines of my suggestion. I have ideas working, but it will be my first contribution to this site, so I hope you'll forgive me if I overstep any boundaries.
I'm impressed by the detail, but it seems… a little too helpful, I guess? Considering how SCPs usually tend to defy analysis whenever possible it kind of seems a little suspect that so many "useful results" would come out at once. I was expecting something more like the Voynich Manuscript Vol. II: Advanced Clockwork Mechanics.
Sure, that's fair. It's my first effort, and it's entirely likely that I've missed the proper tone. I had hoped the inability to confirm results would be sufficiently ambiguous. Feel free to edit and remove useful results as seems fitting.

Ooh, I dunno. Maybe because he won't fit? Maybe because he could trash the machine?
Maybe because he'd probably borrow its powers and start 'converting' everything around him into something unpleasant. Knowing 682's tendency to do horrible things whenever a termination attempt is made, anyway.
Edit: and when a termination attempt ISN'T made, for that matter.
The last thing we need is a swarm of miscroscopic 682's around the facility, or humanoid ones, or shapeshifting ones.

Okay, bad idea, even though this is a more… happy SCP page.
I have an idea: Take 5 computers, all of the same make, and put them in on "Coarse", at separate times as to keep the parts separate. Take the laptops processed on "Coarse" and process one on each setting. If we are lucky, we will get, on one of the stages, a working laptop, reassembled. If we are not lucky, we will perhaps… Let's not think of this scenario now.
And what will this accomplish? Lets just put something else on very fine. FOR SCIENCE!
