It kinda reminded me of "Star Signals," but I liked it.
By the way, what kinda protocol takes its name from three of the rivers in hell?
I like it.
It isn't Keter because it poses an innate threat to mankind or is hard to contain, it's dangerous because it threatens to fuck up all of academia through sesquipedalian, philosophical fabrications that anomalously transfer through vacuum in the event that it is located in close proximity to informational mediums.
I dislike the vagueness of Jehoida Events and Procedure Styx-Archeron, though.
Tentative +1
Hey, I'm glad you do!
Jehoiada event is simply a designation of when the PoIs appear, so no mystery about that.
Shortened description of a sophisticated raid with amnesiacs, hence the Lethe (memory) the Acheron(death) and Styx (both).
I am so confused.
What I got from this is that -1 is media about a pseudo-scientific ideology called Sociosophy, and when put next to other forms of media, will turn them into other instances of -1s. When practitioners of Sociosophy come together and lecture about their topic in a special way, various reality-bending phenomena occur.
Now, do people who read -1 instances instantly and invariably change into PoIs, or do they just have to find the topic interesting? Does Sociosophy have any underlying theme to it, and is there any information as to what Sociosophists do/believe in that I missed from the article (in other words, what is Sociosophy?) Does this have any correlation to the Fifthist Church?
I +1'ed, though, because I do find the concept of having all of the world's knowledge replaced by some weird philosophy scary.
And if the whole world is crashing down… fall through space out of mind with me.
I like the way you think. I'd like to expand on the concept further, so stay tuned!
I adore this. It's kind of a sendup of all those times you were studying some erudite philosophical text in college and found yourself completely zoned out, looking at the words but comprehending none of them. A couple thoughts:
As an aside, all the examples given in the collapsible are great. :D
I am glad you like it; I was on the fences with the entry too, with the examples being able to elaborate on their own. I might consider shortening the entry.
I really enjoyed this. As mentioned, it's like Star Signals, but the execution makes it unique. It's also very well written; descriptive but not overbearing.
Thanks. My pet peeve was that it will be WAYYYY too long.
It does get a little wordy towards the end, but I was okay with that. Then again, I really love Charles Dickens, so I'm typically okay with wordy, ha ha! I think for most people though, cutting out a few sentences here and there would be better.
I was on board with the idea of this. It's a cool idea for philosophy to re-arrange itself into nonsensical meaning. It's intriguing, and kinda weird.
My main issue with this was the execution, in that not a lot was done with it. The last few logs all pretty much say the same thing; weird nonsensical philosophy. It became very repetitive very quickly, and also killed the mood for me. It may be personal taste, but I simply felt that it dragged on for far too long, in a manner that killed the impact of the article by dragging it on for far too long.
I'm going to second this. It wasn't very impressive nonsense philosophy either. Try reading Derrida; this is a pale shadow. As Weizhong said, this used a lot of words to tell very little story, and to present relatively little that catches the imagination. It's not a bad concept, though I think the propagation is more dangerous than it needs to be, but the execution is weak. I do like the tone of the first paragraph of the last collapsible. It does have the ring of someone hopelessly opaque not being so.
EDIT: Instead of toning down the virulence, you could also turn it up. The "autolecture" instructions and the persons of interest materializing both have the feel of some appealing urban legend, and that direction could be explored further. Something that superficially resembles a philosophy is trying to birth itself into our world.
Thanks for the comment: could you elaborate on your second paragraph? It might provide some good ideas for a next story on the topic.
There's not much to that besides just a feel. Fifthism is something that resembles a religion but really isn't, and I got similar vibes from this article, so a similar direction might just work.
I think I'm changing to a neutral vote. The implementation is weak, but there's enough stuff I do like that I can't quite downvote it. The first paragraph of the last section ("I'd like to say hi…") is really good.
I agree. I started the article very excited about it, but by the end a lot of that excitement had been exhausted. Honestly, I think it could do without the -2 events entirely. At least as it is now, all that -2 material doesn't really add anything for me and seems to prevent you from exploring the potential of the central idea. Whatever you decide, I do hope you put some more work in because the potential is very intriguing and the parts I like, I like a lot.
