It's got potential, but a more detached tone would serve it well. Rather than being factual and concise, it leans towards being a little more descriptive and "fluffy".
Part of the enigma of the unknown is exactly that — mystery. Leaving a bit to the imagination usually doesn't hurt. In essence, describing something's physical attributes very sparingly, describing only the important features, allows the reader to invent other features of their own accord, thus enhancing its reality to them.
But all in all, a very interesting, original idea. Kudos.
