This skip was inspired by a real person, the uncle of a friend of mine who owned a plot of land in Florida where he raised banana spiders (the giant golden silk orb-weaver variety, not the brown ones that kill banana farmers in South America).

Edit: Dexanote informed me that there is an episode of Futurama with a roughly analogous plot in which Fry gains regeneration through super-smart worms or something. This was not intended to be similar to that in any way, but rather a story of a nice old lady who care for spiders, and one day the spider mother goddess decided to repay her kindness.

Should be fine. Fry got infested with worms that not only boosted his natural regeneration, but also made him smarter, stronger, etc.

It was actually a plot device used to tease the Fry/Leela relationship. Good episode.

Anyway, aside from "helpful colony of bugs living in someone," the two are very different. Wasn't thinking of Futurama when I read this.

This is very out of place. You can copy the blackboxes by copying them from the How to Write an SCP guide. You can also ask questions about writing SCPs in the main forums or on IRC.

I like the skip, but the interview doesn't seem to add much. It's just a neighbour who's got no information to give - beyond their own mild puzzlement that some would care for spiders.

The bit about the spiders living in interdimensional space didn't really go anywhere. Why can't they just live inside the old woman's body - helping aged internal organs to keep working, or replacing them entirely.

The latter would be a bit like one idea in David Cronenberg's film Shivers (aka They Came from Within). A parasite that takes over the function of a faulty organ.

Overall, it's like a benign version of the plot of Phase IV.

Well, avoiding that cliche was part of the point. They're not parasites and they're not trying to take over. They're more like little spidery angels, going forth to do the mother goddess's bidding.

Moreover, I saw them as being not angels but animal nanobots, of a sort. Repairing her beneficially, probably with an extradimensional connection to, I dunno, her house? where they replenish and take duty shifts. They're clearly alive, so it's not quite literally an angelic phenomenon, and I didn't get any sense of the religious from the article. It's good, though.

This is true, but it takes a lot of words to say it, many of which aren't that relevant. I think it could be summarized more succinctly via findings from many interviews.

And further, her unwillingness/inability to talk to the Foundation about it seems really, really contrived.

I'm a huge arachnphobe (phob?), but I did quite enjoy this article. That episode of Futurama was the first thing that popped into my head when I read it, but it didn't ruin my enjoyment at all.

I liked this very much. It was touching also that she had begun to suffer from Alzheimers. I like to think of her a benevolent witch with spider familiars who is now suffering from the ravages of old ages.

I like that the spiders are caring for her =D

If this had just been a lady filled with spiders, I would have been disappointed (hah! curse this site for making me say things like that), but that they actively help keep her healthy really puts this into upvote range.

At one point my room had a spider tenant. He lived on the outside of my windowsill, and sometimes when I was sitting at my desk he'd crawl out and say hello and scare me. I called him Spider-kun and he ate mosquitoes and ants and kept them out my room.

This article makes me happy. +1 for helpful spiders

Interesting, but I really expected some kind of a zinger at the end. This way, it just seems bland. It reminds me too much of SCP-204 instead of posing an interesting difference.

It's like a cat lady!

….. Except with spiders, and the spiders actually help her instead of giving free brain parasites like regular cats do.
