2014 Guide Overhaul

This guide has been rewritten as part of the 2014 background guide overhaul. The original version of this page can be found in archive form here.

Changes From Original Version

• Page has been spruced up to better serve as an introduction to the SCP Foundation.
• Page has been tabbed to serve as both an in-universe mission statement and an out-of-universe writing guide, along with links to relevant information guides.

The bulk of the SCP Wiki's content is in the various SCP Series (I, II, and III) and the Foundation Tales and Canons.

Should this be updated to include Series 4?

Purple square

I do not know if this happens to anyone else, but on both my computers (Both are dell/windows) i notice a purple square appear on the page randomly that disappears when you highlight the letters it is over. every time i reload the page it is in a different place and I do not know if it is intentional or not.

So, I'm not really sure, but if the foundation is trusted by every major government and a lot of the smaller ones, then why was the GOC created? why did the nations make another "deals with anomalies" group if they already had the foundation?

That sentence in particular isn't exactly reflective of the Foundationverse's geopolitics. The Foundation is certainly trusted by nations to do its job, but America, Russia, and the UN set up their own organizations since theirs and the Foundation's ideologies aren't the exact same.

In reality, there's a bunch of rivalry and hostility between the Foundation and PENTAGRAM, the GOC, and GRU Division "P" (when they were active). The Foundation can be interpreted as a kind of neutral party here, which America finds to be useful but not totally helpful in furthering their national interests. Similar story for the UN, since their beliefs often place them in opposition to the Foundation, and same with Russia during the Cold War.

In essence, other national groups exist because the nations that sponsor them have specific goals that the Foundation couldn't fulfill, whether that be supremacy on the world stage or the destruction of the anomalous.

Looking over this I feel like it's due for a cleanup. The Contain section especially is quite a run on sentence.

Am not liking that text shadow effect in the CSS. It looks like bad, forced antialiasing, and it hurts my eyes to look at.
