so… are cloned items always of poor quality/short lifespan? It's implied by the 30% function of the pills, and the short life of living things, but what if we gave it, say, the Hope Diamond? Would it be flawed, or smaller, or cubic zirconium instead of diamond?
It seems to me that only "complex" life forms or anomalous objects are flawed. The anomalous objects definitely makes sense at least.
It gave a human clone a lifespan of two weeks. That's about the lifespan of a fruit, so there may be a correlation there. It is a fruit tree after all.
I have to say… while the first test log for the weight limit is interesting, I can't see ANYONE in their right mind approving an attempt to clone SCP-173
I'm almost certain that nearly everyone who has read this loves this SCP. It's mentioned all the time. WHY is it only +17
Doing my part to fix that. *salutes*

I actually don't love it. My non-vote is an accurate representation of my opinion on this subject.
This. It's mostly only cool because it's useful, but then it's the story/article that makes use of it that's cool, not SCP-038 itself. For instance, the most interesting part of this article is the SCP-173 crosstest, but only because of potential insight into SCP-173. There's nothing particularly WRONG with SCP-038, and the article is well-written, but I feel perfectly neutral about it.
No, that's no the most interesting part of the 173 crosstest. It's the fact that the clone moved no matter what happened. Think about a 173 that moves no matter who's looking at it.
What ended up happening to the 173 clone? Did it eventually time out after a couple weeks, or did it continue indefinitely as a separate anomaly?
Clone diamonds and sell them! Loads of funding for the foundation! De Beers will go bankrupt! :D
When you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
Meh, DeBeers is already on their way there. Do you know how many diamonds they have stockpiled in an effort to not over-saturate the market? It's like real-estate in that the price has been artificially inflated to the point where it will collapse the moment someone points out that the emperor has no clothes, at least the jewelry market part of it. Now the use of diamonds in electronic equipment, that is much more sustainable.
Uhm, i don't know if this was noticed by anyone else but… this very same tree is on a walt disney's story about mickey mouse. It is used to clone dollars by an old guy, and by the end of the story donald duck himself is cloned several times, or something like that.
Unfortunately i cannot recall the volume i read this, but i am adamantly sure about having read this story in a walt disney comic.
Though human and animal cloning yields unstable results, using this an an inexhaustible source of skilled and compliant Class-D personnel is a possibility. Especially if mental conditioning is used where the cloned personnel does not believe they're a clone. Basically do what they did in the sci-fi movie Moon.
