Author Overview

This was inspired from my desire to have more Roman-centric articles on the site, and my love of historical SCP's.

Thanks to Dmatix especially for this long and patient critique in which he kindly pointed out how much I didn't understand Roman history, and how I could reshape this SCP to be interesting.

Other thanks go out to the various members of chat who reviewed the original version of the draft, and who said that they enjoyed it anyways.

I'm a little iffy on this one, leaning more towards an upvote.

I like the concept and when I saw "IX Hispana" I couldn't help but fanboy a bit. With that said, I couldn't help but feel as if something was lacking from this article. The tone seems fine, and the concept's pretty cool (the missing 9th Legion showing up in random places), but I just don't know whether or not I like it. No vote for now, but perhaps I'll warm up to it after a third reading.

PS: I'm pretty sure it's spelled "Aesculapius," but I have seen the spelling you've used somewhere, I suppose.

Y'know, I got the exact same feeling from this. I love the concept, but nothing about the execution made me want to upvote.

The places themselves are actually all hypothesized areas in which Legio IX Hispana could have potentially been lost in combat.

Really? I could've sworn they went missing/were destroyed whilst being stationed in Britain. I mean since it was so long ago it's possible that they were at any of those places when they disappeared, but I'm really, REALLY sure that I read somewhere that some guy knew some guys who said that they had a friend who knew that the aqualifer's brother was in Britain, but I dunno.

I thought the same thing. I consulted with Dmatic though, the resident Roman history buff, who's actually studying for a bachelor's in history with a focus on Roman history. He said that the ultimate fate of the Lost Legion is currently unknown, but that there were some hypotheses about their fate.

Britain is certainly the most likely place that the legion could have been destroyed at, but the point of my suggestion in this particular case was to use the ambiguity about the legion's fate among historians as the hook for this particular SCP, hence its appearance in various places the legion might have been involved in. The Lost Legion has been a constant point of contention and confusion among historians, which is why I thought that the same confusion existing among the members of the legion itself would make a neat hook. I think that it is, hence my upvote.

I suspect this would have flown a couple years ago, but after 2000+ articles, my reaction is "Roman ghost legion…okay, and…?"

The length demands a better payoff, and the subject isn't weird and/or interesting enough to carry the article just by showing up.

I'm sorry I couldn't give you a more constructive criticism in the chat other than "I like it". But I liked it back then and I like this improved version now, upvoted.

I like it a lot. I don't feel it's missing anything, and I think extra stuff runs the risk of feeling extraneous.

One thing, though: personnel is a plural noun. You cannot have 'a personnel'. I suggest replacing with 'a member of staff'.

It looks like the SCP-2012 slot finally has an article that stuck.

In general, I like it. Solid presentation, reasonably interesting, and weird.
