Shoutout to Nicolini for forcing me to write this, and Roget/Seagull for the critique.

This all came about because I had sworn there was an SCP called "You Have Died of Dysentery", except there never was.

That has long fascinated me, chiefly because my grandfather's grandfather took his family on the Oregon Trail in 1840 and didn't lose a single person to dysentery.

There are many unpleasant ways to die, and that is definitely one.

In a sense, it's not only containing itself, but it's also containing dysentery as a whole. That is, if I read the skip right.

I'm not sure what's going on here. If SCP-4947 doesn't represent the number of actual human deaths by dysentery, but only the number reported, how does filling the numbers with a false report eliminate actual human deaths entirely? There should be plenty which are never directly reported that still occur. Is stating that there are no actual human deaths a false statement designed to not add to the number of deaths reported by Sunny Skies Analytics?

This seems to underestimate how common dysentery is and how huge an undertaking it would be to conceal the disappearance of all dysentery deaths. Is this an intentional undercurrent to the SCP or an oversight?

I personally don't like future SCPs, but this one seems especially bad to me because it's not just supposing an alternate future (with future tech or whatever) but just has to be set at a different time otherwise the core concept of the SCP is easily disprovable.

I actually quite like the idea here and the aspects I find confusing could potentially be as intended (something that appears quite simple but has a lot of strange aspects after thinking about it for a while). However, as it stands it's just confusing to me, not strange-confusing.

Well the foundation is reporting a ton of fake disentery deaths so that they can match the number they need. In this way, if someone actually died of dysentery there would be more reported than the actual number and they could consider the anomaly neutralized.

This makes no sense to me. I’m don’t math too good but isn’t the Fibonacci sequence a set number? So you’re multiplying that number by the number of days past this future date? Wouldn’t the report pretty quickly say that everyone has died of dysentery? And if that’s the point, then why? Are you trying to contain the knowledge that dysentery isn’t a thing past that date? Also why?

Honestly, I feel like this is too much confusion for what seems like an “Oregon Trail” reference. Sorry but -1.

Fibonacci sequence is an infinite sequence of progressively larger numbers, not a single number.
Specifically, the next term in the sequence is the sum of the previous two terms:

1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, ….and so on

Fibonnacci(n) means the nth number in the series. So on day 6 they look at the 6th number in Fibonacci sequence, and get 8. Then tell the world 8 people died of dysentery.

Explanation.

The twist is that the total number of reported deaths is equal to Fibonacci(n), which is anomalous behavior. However, since it is off reports, then reporting Fibonacci(n) deaths means that there can not be any more actual deaths that could possibly be reported. Thus, by reporting the deaths, the anomaly is exploited and all deaths by dysentery are prevented around the world. So it's a net positive.

Of course, if they stop reporting false deaths, it's a disaster.

This may be just me, but following the 4K Contest, I have noticed that there has been a sharp increase of sub par short articles floating around the site and this is no exception. I am fond of the concept thoug, which prevents me from giving this a -1
