Well there went any hope of getting my upvote. I like the rest of it, but I can't stand the idea of kidnapping and D-classing. At least release the poor bastard once he's finished transcribing.

This is the discussion related to the wiki page SCP-1677.
They need someone with a musical background to transcribe it. And since its source could not be found, D-1677's services were retained in the event of future outbreaks. Good thing too, since a few years later -B showed up.
Or would you rather they'd released him and kidnapped someone else with a musical background? Or perhaps daisy-chain the infection to keep it stored until someone with a musical background commits a capitol crime?

They can't keep him around very long, then, because pretty soon he's going to perceive nothing but the meme and then die. Seems like it would be better if he wrote it down or, i dunno, hummed it into a recorder if you need it for later comparisons. Then you amnesticize him and release. If it's recorded, it's more ethical, easier to contain, and above all else cheaper.
That's what they do, except for releasing him. They infect him, then amnesticize him enough to erase the self-propagating pattern, but not enough to effect his long-term memory. Then they keep him around in case they need him, in case other versions show up. Otherwise they'd have to wait until someone properly awful with the appropriate musical background came along and use him. But what do they do in the meantime? Constantly infect and then cure a string of D-Class to keep the new version on lockdown until an orchestra conductor goes postal? It seems much cheaper to me to hold on to this one guy that can already do what they need.

I corrected a typo ('take the form handwritten documents' in the second sentence of the description), but forgot to describe it in the box. Sorry.
As for the SCP? Mmm, I don't care for it. I found it densely worded and hard to follow (I'm not sure if it's always one song, or can take the form of any/many songs, for example), and overall it just seemed a bit like a meme what kills you.
