Writing Marks in the second interview was hard. I had established him as a sympathetic character in the first interview, but wanted to properly build him up in the second.
I was trying to get a mix of his anger at Gifts' screw up (which he personally authorised), his anger at the sheer misfortune of the disappearance, his frustration that Command has mostly covered the explanation up and thus denied him a degree of closure, his sheer grief over the disappearance of the most important person in the world to him, his guilt over feeling responsible for the disappearance (since he's the corresponding case of 4042-1), and the resulting mutual sympathy and empathy between Marks and Gifts over their shared experiences.
Took a few repeats, but managed to more-or-less get it all in there.
I'm very glad you appreciated it.
