Yes. Yes, this pleases me.
One thing I like here is that the sloths are barely anomalous. There's almost nothing here which is 100% scientifically impossible, except for the whole 'interact with clouds' thing. But they were bred to do this.
There's a guy in New York City who can anomalously custom-breed sloths. It's not anomalous chemistry or anomalous physics or anomalous math, it's anomalous animal husbandry.
More like anomalous genetic engineering. Given sloth reproduction and growth rates, it'd take hundreds of years to breed anything remotely like this.
That said, that choice of words is just about the only thing I don't like about this. Flying, jet-fart-propelled sloths that walk on clouds, have algal endosymbionts, and take orders from an angry New York businessman. It's just the right kind of what the actual fuck. +1.

That's why it's anomalous breeding. He can manage a good three generations per hour, and he knows exactly which traits to choose. It's like how Forge can anomalously invent-design-and-build anomalous machines, but he has to go through all the precursor steps.
Instances of SCP-1784 are to be contained in a rainforest bio-enclosure with at least 4 meters cubed allotted for each instance. The bio-enclosure is to be exposed to direct sunlight as much as possible. Instances are permitted to interact with one another and the structures they create. When they are recovered, currently uncontained instances of SCP-1784 are to be contained under the same procedures.
This is a tad messy
Instances of SCP-1784 are to be contained in a rainforest biodome (I'm not sure bio-enclosure is a word) with at least 4 m3 allotted for each instance. The enclosure is to be exposed to direct sunlight for at least █ hours a day. Instances are permitted to interact with both each other and 1784-2 (shouldn't the clouds be a subclass of the SCP? Aren't notable emissions usually labeled?). When they are recovered, currently uncontained instances of SCP-1784 are to be contained under the same procedures.
I think I'm missing the joke or reference… I don't really see anything anomalous about these sloths at all (clouds are debatable I suppose). Why are we containing them? One more thing, you may want to reference some sort of system that can be used to vent out these gasses or maybe the crazy high calorie diet that would be required to sustain prolonged electrolysis. These are admittedly small things most people may not care about.
Aside from those qualms, pretty good job sir.

There is no debate to be had here. Please look up what "anomalous" means. Please do not incorrectly tell people that their SCPs are not anomalous.
You are entitled to your opinions, but factual errors make for bad feedback.
Sorry bout that, didn't mean to infringe. Can you elaborate on what qualifies as anomalous? Most definitions I encounter seem to put it as
- Deviating from what would be expected
- Unclassified
- Incongruous
I've looked over the site for a clearer definition, but I'm drawing a blank. The emitted clouds and the interaction thereof is definitely anomalous by these definitions. But aren't these really broad? For most SCP's I've read, anomalous usually indicates a supernatural, extraterrestrial, or extra-dimensional quality.
I'm not trying to be argumentative- I genuinely want to learn the accepted definition so I can participate in a more constructive way.
You already understand the definition of anomalous, it's just you didn't see that the ability to handle a gas such as water vapor as if it was a solid is impossible. Also, the fact that someone managed to breed sloths to have certain traits that wouldn't appear in nature is pretty abnormal to me.
No worries. It's true that 'anomalous' has many other meanings.
Put in a really sloppy way, it's anything that would be impossible in our real world. Anything we'd sloppily say is outside the boundaries of science for any reason. Anything supposedly beyond the realm of what is "natural".
In reality, of course, nothing is outside the boundaries of science (since science is a field of study governed by the scientific method) and everything is natural (ignoring religious beliefs of course) but that's the colloquial way of referring to it. What the Foundation considers anomalous is anything that violates consensus reality.
These sloths are anomalous because of the way they were bred, their biology, and the fact that they can interact with clouds as if they were solid. All these things are outside the conceivable realm of established science and consensus reality. They are things that could not occur in the real world.
In the Foundationverse, consensus reality is the same, but all these 'unnatural' or 'preternatural' things do exist. So to preserve consensus reality, the Foundation hides their existence, as well as studying them. This is what is meant by 'anomalous'.
"Miracles, by definition, are meaningless. Only that which can happen, will happen."
What movie?
Google says Watchmen.

Berggren please keep writing forever and ever
Whether you like it or not, history is on our side. We will bury you!
And thus the great writing war began.
Living the dream, or dreaming the life?
I don't care much for the last addendum, but I still like this article.

I kind of like it, just because it feels real. This is what I'd expect to be in an SCPF document.
'For the record staff, this happened, and we'll remind you all to take procedural precautions next time to avoid it happening again. Thank you.' It doesn't really add anything except itself, but I like it for its own sake. If that makes sense.
"What."
After a few seconds of silence that felt agonizingly close to an eternity to the poor researcher issuing the discovery report, the O5 council managed to come up with the following statement, with elegance only befitting one in a position of power higher than most conspiracy theorists could ever imagine:
"It's a farting, flying sloth."
"Y.. yes O5-2, the SCP in question was discove-"
"It's a farting. Flying. Sloth."
"Um.. sir?"
"… I quit."
<Spidersnake> Green farting floating skywriting sloths controlled by an angry guy in a suit. I like it, but don't be surprised when people complain about a lack of hook
<Voct> Spidersnake - I should point out, the green part is common to real sloths
<Voct> as is the farting
<Voct> this guy was able to anomalously breed a population of sloths that has these capabilities whcih are not strictly anomalous
<Voct> but, uh
<Voct> it's the result of anomalous animal husbandry
<Spidersnake> Well, are regular sloths smart enough to understand basic commands? I truly don't know.
<Bunton> It wouldn't be /anomalous/ in a Foundation sense if you got one that was.
<Bunton> Especially intelligent varieties of certain animals aren't that uncommon.
<Voct> Bunton - but to breed an entire population of sloths that a) can float, b) can fart skywriting, and c) are instinctively obedient to white-haired men who wear suits with orange neckties and who speak English with a New York accent?
<Voct> I really like the idea of this anomalous businessman feverishly breeding sloths in his basement, knowing that in just 450 more accelerated generations, they'll be able to fly
<Voct> imagine a Batman villain whose gimmick is "breeding anomalous sloths"
<Voct> now I'm imagiing the Foundation tracking down the Sloth Wrangler and somehow coercing him into breeding sloths that could destroy SCP-682
<Berggren> Voct: the point is not totally in the breedin of the sloths but in the fact that they were used as retaliation for corporate espionage
<Voct> Berggren - that may have been what the Sloth Wrangler used them for, but what the Foundation is interested in is the fact that the guy *is* the Sloth Wrangler
<Berggren> Voct: sure
<Voct> "FUK U FUKRE" - beautiful
<Voct> Berggren - every now and then, the Sloth Wrangler gets lonely, and starts to consider how long it would take to breed a sloth that would look and act like a human female. But then he gets all angry at himself for being a pervert.
<Voct> Still, though. It'd take him 851 days.
