I'm curious of the thought process of other people when they chose their username here. (And maybe your profile pic as well).

I chose "Accelerando" sort of hesitantly a first, since I originally wanted to reference a favorite artist of mine or something. I couldn't think if anything, so I began to randomly think of musical terms, and eventually settled on accelerando from my fear of speeding up during performances. And the fact that it sounded cool.
My profile picture is currently from a favorite album of mine. It'd be nice if someone knew…

We actually already have a thread like this here, though admittedly, it is pretty old.

Heck with it. Zyn Kiryu is the name of the first character I ever roleplayed with (in high school, some childhood friends of mine in creative writing and I set up a roleplay forum; Zyn was a half-elf swordswoman fire sorceress my friends shipped her with every villain because crazy high school girls are crazy and her brother Mark was a full elf archer light mage yeahhhhh). Since "Zyn" is shorter than my RL name, my friends started calling me that at school, and it stuck.

I've been going by erich or some minor variation thereof ever since I first got online (in 1982). I would now find it odd to be called anything else.

Which is really strange, since my real name is Bruce.

My image is my Facebook profile pic, which is usually a cat. Cats are just more photogenic than I am.

The thing most people now would find hard to believe about the Internet in the early/mid-80s (and the ARPANET, its immediate predecessor) is that they were completely non-commercial. The net was set up for the government, and for universities doing government-funded research, and commercial use was forbidden. The general public couldn't get on it until the late 80s. You were much more likely to be on a local dial-up BBS if you were online at all.

Everything was text-only until 1993 or so.

On the other hand, you had e-mail (but no Spam!) and Usenet news, and bulletin boards were not all that different than, say, this forum, except the pool of users was a LOT smaller.

My username is a nonsense word I came up with while playing Mass Effect 2, and is basically a bastardization of the name of the YMIR mechs from the aforementioned game. Unsurprisingly, it's never taken when I'm registering for new sites, so I basically use it for everything.

My image is a picture of Yahtzee Croshaw smashing a bottle over a dolphin's head, from the Zero Punctuation review of Paper Mario: Sticker Star.

My username is based on, depending on my mood, either a smashup of Vincent Price and Vanessa Redgrave's names, or Vincent Valentine and Tony Redgrave (AKA Dante Spardasson, of Devil May Cry).

My profile pic is a project that I did for an artistic symbolism course. We had to come up with a new road sign and make it out of construction paper. I chose to do "ninja crossing zone" for my unique piece.

Since this is the new thread for this, my username is my real life lastname (Tuomey, anglicisation of Ó'Tuama, meaning something like "Grandson of the Tomb", not sure of the origin, people have suggested it means a dead or disavowed lineage) crossed with a phonetically born nickname, Tombstone.

I've always said I'd like to officially change my name to Tuomey Tombstone and get a doctorate. "DOCTOR TOMBSTONE, MOTHERFUCKERS!"
Maybe get that printed on my door or everywhere or something

My picture is an oldish one of me.

Actually, I've been thinking of mine for a long time, it just sounded nice together. Alan is just a name i personally like, while corbie is just a Scottish term (i believe) for a raven. It can be used as a viable name where i live.

As for the profile pic, it's a personal touch to some symbol i saw somewhere, just can't remember.

"Alonzo Felix," after being thoroughly sped up, jumbled, and bastardized, becomes "Azzleflux." The profile picture currently is SWAGSIRE, drawn by my friend, but I've been meaning to change it.

My actual first name is Jacob.
Conwell is a last name I have used in several other forums.

The profile pic is a yellow sign of The Yellow Sign. I've recently been brushing up on he Cthulhu mythos and Hastur was one of my favorite entities and his symbol was pretty cool.
