Well, here goes nothing. This one is about is 3 years in the making, with a lot more focus now.

I must give thanks for Pedantique and Hercules Rockefeller for putting up with my questions and kicking my ass into actually (trying to) tell a story. Thanks also to Countless Skies (recently) and Eskobar (way back) for critique in the forums, and PMEase-G4 for help with brainstorming. Sorry if I didn't integrate everyone's ideas, but I appreciate them all.

The image is modified from this 1598 map of South America, recovered from Wikimedia commons at that link, which is in the public domain.

If the image size is an issue, I may need to change the image box formatting, I'm just slightly loathe to.

Honestly I'd just love a couple more accounts, nothing drastic I just feel like I was left with my curiosity peaked, but not a lot of info.

Maybe thats a good thing but I'd just love a little more, just to give me something to suspect you know?

Couple of small issues:

They dropped me and a dozen Norwegian resistance fighters out of a Gloster Gladiator onto a godforsaken wind-swept bluff.

The Gloster Gladiator is a 1-seater biplane, so this is a very amusing mental image.

I don't hate this - it's a pretty neat idea - but there didn't seem to be much of a payoff at the end. Also, the voice of all the people in the logs sounds too similar and interchangeable, with not much individual characterisation between person or time (I considered that might have been intentional, but I don't think so). Novoted.

Whoops…. It's a Handley Page Halifax now.

The character voice thing is something I struggle with. I tried to use different language tics, but if it wasn't enough, that's fair.

Agree with the lack of payoff. I feel like something has been cut out.

Maybe it's just that I'm having a hard time concentrating this morning, but how is this anomalous? It's just a bunch of narratives about a place that doesn't exist and appears in different locations, which basically have nothing to do with each other. I don't even know how anyone decided these things were related.

Well, one answer is that I forgot a key sentence in a rewrite, but it's back now.

The description of SCP-4000 is identical between 4000-A narratives, although some contain only partial features or use period vernacular.

The other answer is that

the evidence in the narratives points to a retrocausal effect, and I didn't want to write the Foundation as being completely stupid, for a few reasons: 1) that ship has sailed (and the other links in Sylvia's log), and 2) when I originally thought of this in 2015 and even up until event drafts, the narratives were the SCP and I was being coy as hell. I couldn't make that work.

I like it. You do a great job with the historical logs, in my opinion, and the build-up is quite a tense ride. To be honest, I kind of liked Sylvia's log better as an ending than the MTF debriefing, if only because the content there seemed much more thematic than "expeditionary force gets slaughtered."

Still, all in all, it's a great contest entry. +1.

Yeah… I didn't realize I was reaching for the "kill whole MTF" trope while I was doing it, but now that you've pointed it out, I kinda hate that.

I'm taking your advice and deleting the last log. There may be a rewrite for this in the future, but hopefully that will do for now.

Effective 3/26/2009, no resources are to be allocated to locating SCP-4077.

The dating system between this line and Dr. Sylvia's log are inconsistent.
