Thanks for not having a ridiculously cubic room (Really, 20 m high? You could fill an ocean liner with that many anklebiters).
That was the easy part. Still a bigass containment room, all things considered.

Jesus christ, take my upvote.
I sort of think eating ankles makes them smarter.

Could be. To be honest, I didn't feel the need to think it out in detail.

Very nice. Taxidoimied aminals come alive in Scotland?
…Can we call them "Wild Haggis"? <:D
I want to think of an objection to this but really there are no solid objections.
Proceed.

Fuck it, I lol'd.

This is everything a rewrite should strive to be. +1
To be honest, this doesn't really do it for me. I wasn't a fan of the original article, and this is basically a cleaner version of it with some hints of interesting bits added. Unfortunately, at least for me, the hints aren't really enough.
That said, I like the origin story part, and I also like that Dr. MacGregor has clearance (4-625/1515/3123). When we finally reach the 3000s, I wonder if people will observe that pattern?

it is a The Enigma Man

Never saw the original, and I honestly don't get this. What does "distinct sections" mean? They're pieces of rat fused together somehow? So doesn't that just make them OTT rats?
They're pieces of rat fused together somehow?
Not just rats — various rodents — but yes. Think Frankenstein's monster but alive and without stitches.
So doesn't that just make them OTT rats?
You tell me. Do you feel like being made of rodents automatically makes something OTT rats? Or were you trying to say that their other properties gave that impression? Because the conclusion does not follow from the premise.

Well, okay, I'm imagining two halves of the same type of rodent being fused together into another rat, in which case they just randomly have anesthetic spit, killer claws, and eat ankles. (Normal rats eat babies, after all.)
Now I'm starting to gather that maybe they're multiple pieces of multiple species of rat fused into one creature that is not necessarily rat-shaped. Yes, no? In which case, well, that's a good bit more disturbing, I'd say! It's hard to tell though, because the first sentence suggests that, collectively, instances of SCP-625 are comprised of distinct sections from upwards of seven species, but not how many sections per instance, and this is why I'm confused as to what precisely they are.
Now I'm starting to gather that maybe they're multiple pieces of multiple species of rat fused into one creature that is not necessarily rat-shaped. Yes, no?
You are aware that rats are not the only rodents, right? But you are right in that they are not necessarily rat-shaped.

Oh. Well even in my current drunken stupor, I can see I misinterpreted something.
I think what this needs is just a word or two about irregular forms or asymmetrical construction. That would fix everything.
I have made the change you suggested :) check the first paragraph.

Perfect! Upvote gained.
I really wanted to upvote this from the start, because preying specifically on ankles is just great.
Awesome. And yeah, that's what drew me to it in the first place too. I take a guilty pleasure in seeing old articles with great ideas but serious execution flaws, 'cause I know there's always the chance to rewrite 'em later.
