For Drewbear as a Birthday present. I only saw your challenge tonight so I cranked this thing out as quickly as possible.

This thing completes four challenges at once (though only two intentionally): Bright's 24-hour challenge, Drewbear's non-sight/hearing sensory effect challenge, Bright's 'weapon unrelated to fightan good' challenge, and Djoric's challenge to update a pre-Mass Edit article. This one is based on the (rewritten)version of SCP-267 - Vorpal Sword, the author of which I sadly do not know and so cannot credit.

Not bad, dude. I enjoyed this one a fair amount, and therefore have upvoted it. Only major thing that bothered me is having two paragraphs in a row start with "A further <x>%". I've been told that I'm the only one bothered by this, but it still bugs me.

Overall, I like this, but there are a few phrasings that I find a bit confusing:

If placed on a flat surface, SCP-1871 will orientate itself so that it is balanced on the hilt with the sword point facing directly upwards, although the sword is not weighted

So it stands up on its hilt/pommel? Also, I think you meant "orient", not "orientate."

Okay, so their balance has been fucked, but I'm not getting a good grip on exactly how they're perceiving gravity. Do you mean that they feel like the pommel of the sword is "down" and the point of the sword is "up"?

I really like how a not-insignificant percentage get the Jabberwock bodymapped onto them.

In my opinion, all challenges met and well. And thank you for the gift. :)

"orient", not "orientate."

They're both words.

They're not the same word, however. "Orientate" is an intransitive verb (does not need an object) meaning "turning to the east (orient)". "Orient" is a transitive verb (requires an object) meaning "to find or give direction". "Orientate" itself is a back-formation from the word "orientation".

I've changed it to 'orient', because this is written for Drewbear and so what he says goes. But the two words have the same meaning according to the Oxford English Dictionary, and 'orientate' is the preferred term in the UK.

The vorpal sword, huh? Turned out surprisingly well. I just have some nitpicks- how does the purple residue indicate that it was used in combat (as opposed to simply cutting something), and the reference to the direction the pommel is pointing is sort of unclear, as Drewbear mentioned.

It's kind of cool, but I second Drewbear about some confusing sentences. For instance

Additionally, SCP-1871 will occasionally begin to behave as if it is submerged in a highly viscous liquid when it is not, and will maintain this anomalous state for several hours at a time before reverting to normal. Only SCP-1871 is affected by these anomalous properties.

How does a sword behaves when submerged in a liquid vs not? After reading that part a few times I suppose you mean the wielder will feel like they are moving it through a thick liquid, although their own bodies and limbs feel normal?

You notice that you can't, say, swing a stick as fast under water as you can through the air? Now imagine that the stick behaves that way, even though you're not submerged.
