I like it. As I told you earlier, I still think it could use with a bit of overall fleshing out. I know you added the new parts to do that, but now I'm left with a feeling like it could do with a bit more tying together, even though I know what it's suppose to be.
That being said, I think this might end up being the first successful entry to the challenge. I'm a bit worried about whether or not Knowledge is adequately fulfilled, but let's keep our fingers crossed!
Very nicely done. One question tho:
██/██/20██: An unknown entity was observed by researchers described as a squat humanoid with limbs similar to those of an arachnid. The entity was seen re-arranging books, and upon being seen fled from researchers and ascended the central pillar. General research within SCP-1726 has been halted for the time being.
Is this a Library reference?
I want to see more here, but on the whole I'm good. Real nifty.
if your reading this your gay
This is the type of SCPs I like to see, hinting at a larger picture while still being complete enough in their own write to be interesting. I think it might be a bit too focused on the non-existent and all too ancient societies (maybe a bit of real history would be nice as well), but it's nice regardless.
Good job, I like this. I'm also really happy that you used proper pinyin.
All those lines mentioning the Daevic Empire are references to SCP-140, of course. But that's not exactly hard to pick out.
Love it, love it, love it.
It's got a lot of intriguing hooks without becoming self-indulgent with a giant log of "let's overexplain everything," which I think it could easily have been. Also, I'm a sucker for repositories of knowledge about lost history.
Dig the Chinese angle, too. Adds just the right flair of personality to it all.
I, too, would like more info on the central pillar. Climbing it helps you escape the feelings of extraspatial nausea, but beyond that, there seems to be no significance to it.
The thing I like most about this is the very matter-of-fact way things like the fall of Mu are reported. "Yeah, there's this library in China, full of books about Mu and the Daevics and a bunch of other civilizations that shouldn't exist, and it's fourteen square kilometers inside! Can you believe that?"
No, there's significance. Consider the nature of the place, the nature of the creature seen, the lantern, and the wise words of our friend Terry Pratchett on libraries.
Yeah, I feel like that if you're something tied to libraries, like the Library servant, or possibly even a dedicated public librarian, you'd get to the Library through climbing it.
Not that familiar with Pratchett, sorry, and Googling the quote didn't help. If this is just a bunch of references to other things, I should maybe reconsider my upvote.
I still feel like something's missing from the pillar, though. I mean, agents climbed up almost 13 meters and then, what, just gave up? You can't see it from outside the structure, but what can you see from the pillar? (Also, I just noticed that the unknowability of its height is mentioned twice; I'd remove the first instance.)
Kilometers, man. 12.8 kilometers.
Unfamiliarity with Pratchett is a capital offense, punishable by Death.
This is not a reference to Discworld, I was merely using it as an example. It is, however, filled with references to other things of the scip universe.
