I like it.

Edit: Looking at it again, you have a 1 before your footnote and I'm not sure outstripping is good tone. Maybe surpassing. Otherwise still good.

I feel like a bit more could have been done with this, but well done regardless, +1
2spooky4me ghostlobotomies.
I wish I could like it more. I was liking it up until ghostlobotomies.
Living the dream, or dreaming the life?
Fair enough, and thanks for the input. I focused on the lobotomies because that actually WAS how they treated some patients with severe psychiatric illness for a short (but disturbing) amount of time. Transorbital lobotomies are the stuff of f**king nightmares (link: http://www.npr.org/programs/atc/features/2005/nov/lobotomy/icepick.html)
Oh yes. I know that fact very well. But it's something like "I've seen it played for horror too many times" and therefore I'm not too fascinated by "psychiatry was spooky in the past! Dem scary lobotomies" anymore. Just old and cynical I guess.
Living the dream, or dreaming the life?
Dang, I like this. One thing tho, it might just be me and the fact that I don't see old stuff like this very often, but the description and the picture seem… off, to me. It really might just be me, though, given that I haven't had much exposure to such things.
I mostly like this, but there were a few stylistic issues that bugged me. First off, I find the very last sentence unwieldy, mainly because "that of" lacks a clear referent (if it refers to "lesions", it should be "those of"). And then there's this:
Subjects diagnosed with severe psychiatric illness (major depression, auditory/visual hallucinations, etc.) report SCP-1892-1 muttering to itself before sighing and stating a lack of alternatives. SCP-1892-1 will state its intent to restrain the subject, stating its desire to avoid inadvertent harm to the subject.
That's quite a lot of statements.
Meh. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to get out of this, really. It's just sort of a thing that's there, and this happens if you use it.
As an aside, I think this could lose the picture.
if your reading this your gay
It certainly is a thing that's there, and that's one thing I like about it. I was entirely prepared for it to compel people to take a seat.
And on the point of the picture, I'd have to say I agree. It looks way too ermagerdspooky and staged- it doesn't help with suspension of disbelief, which is generally the point of images (in my opinion).
No vote for me. The article has some merits, but it feels like it's missing something.
I like it. This makes good use of the picture in my opinion.
One thing I noticed is that in the first paragraph of the description it says
As long as the subject does not sit in SCP-1892 they are under no compulsion to follow SCP-1892-1’s directions and may leave the area freely.
And never really mentions the imaginary man giving orders which must be followed again. Also maybe throw in testing of some kind. That'd sell this really well for me.
I like that the situation ramps up depending on what the subject's ailments are. Also slightly creeped out that an apparent physician (who does actually perform physical examinations) is also giving psychiatric evaluations. Or am I misinterpreting his position? Anyway, it's not just a chair that lobotomizes you, and it's good to see that picture coming back on an article that works.
Psychiatrists are medical doctors and have a licence to perform physicals, etc. Modern psychs have decided that they just want to prescribe medications and so don't even touch patients anymore. That's not the way it used to be.
I like how this takes the time to diagnose patients and treats them to the best of its knowledge. Upvoted.
As someone who suffers from several psychiatric disorders, this struck a chord with me. The fact that it doesn't just go "LOBOTOMY TIME!" the second anyone sits down and instead actually goes through the whole therapist thing was a nice change from the lobotomy mad doctors of other horror.
Honorary +1 for your comment due to "LOBOTOMY TIME!".
