Suggested reading order: SCP-1890, SCP-1896, SCP-1928.

This one was a long time in writing, and the other two have now been significantly rewritten for maximum cohesiveness. I'd especially appreciate a re-read of SCP-1890 as a part of a whole.

The music: sprechstimme, Dock Boggs, a banjolele sounds like a banjo on helium, the waters of Babylon inspired this SCP, and Americans have some great songs about death.

This one is kind of… meh. It really isn't as scary or interesting as a lot of other SCPs, and I think that you could have made a better addition to the Bonifay series of articles. At least the grammar is acceptable. -1

Library articles are deleted and I still don't know what this has to do with a hurricane like TV Tropes claims it to be.

These intros are always more pretentious than I remember them being…

I wrote the above about three years ago now, and I no longer have a WL author page because I deleted my WL content. The link would have taken you to a long character bio with lots of fake academic citations and a description of a Florida triune goddess-styled deity. There were archival Florida photos of three unknown women, and emphasis on their contribution of stories about the unknown or unmourned dead.

I'm really only replying because I didn't know this was on TV Tropes and that's kinda cool.

Seriously, though, just Google "Florida 1928". The second article that comes up is almost too overt an explanation of what I was trying to do with these stories.

I'm not really interested in this. All it seems to do it make people play it. While I'd like to see the continuation of the Bonifay family, I feel like this is pretty weak. -1

Well, I understand "this wasn't interesting", but that's ^ not really an accurate statement.

Okay, add in the fact that it doesn't actually make sounds when compulsively played and they won't stop playing until someone grabs it from them. Then also add in the thing where it plays an unrememberable song and sings when it's alone, as well as being a Bonifay thing. Did I miss anything?

It affects memory, identity, and alters documents and photographs.

Yep.

edit: That is to say, they all have the common theme of altering memory; none of the others alter identity to the same extent or alter documents at all.

I liked the Bonifay mythos when you first started it, and I feel that this is a good addition. My only concern is that, without the cross-testing (which is excellent, by the way), this seems kind of thin. Upvote, but I'd like to see the banjolele itself fleshed out a bit more.

I started the draft back in December, and I cut a lot of content out to make it readable (including a lot more experiment log material in Addendum 1, before the cross-testing)— possibly too much, in retrospect. I'll let it sit for a few hours and see what revisions I can make.

You learn something new every day — I had no idea there was such a thing as a banjolele. This SCP is vaguely unsettling and has done nothing to dissuade me from thinking Florida is full of weirdos.

I'm very happy with the cross-testing here- it carries the article in a big way. I imagine some headcanons won't tolerate the in-universe combination of such obviously related items, but I dare say it works here.

On the one hand, this barely stands on its own without the links to the other Bonifay artifacts. Not to mention I was ready to downvote before I saw "second effect" because that first effect is pretty basic stuff.

However, by the end of the addenda, I was feeling a little unsettled, as someone else had said. This is almost a tale in article format, building towards something and telling a story via testing of related objects.

That was my goal from the first article— I came up with a story first (Okeechobee, 1928) then found the images, and then picked three objects to bring across the different tones/ideas. I probably wouldn't have posted any one of them as a standalone SCP, even SCP-1896, which was the best received.

That's not how I usually write articles, and I figured it would be a risky-but-interesting thing to try.

(There are at least two tales that will round if off a little and make the objects' origin more explicit, but I'm not sure whether they'll fit better here or at the Library.)
