I am not mentally ready for this

So this is the most ambitious thing I have ever been involved in.

Some background on how this happened: Ages ago, back in 3K, I had an idea to write an article about the sun protecting the solar system from some sort of looming threat. This fell through (IRL issues, growing to dislike the idea, trying and failing to do another draft). Flash forward to January/February. Rimple is holding a draftswap contest. One person gives an incomplete draft to a random user in the contest, said user finishes a complete draft, and you get a draft to complete as well.

I decided to go put my 3K draft in and Varaxous got it. From here on we began a grueling writing process, with a lot of stuff changed, modified, and cut as it went on. Then other events happened. Jamcon, Doomcon, other articles. I told Varaxous we'd save it for later, to wait for some more crit, then it fell back into drafting limbo.

Then the original 1548 was deleted.

We realized the opportunity to put an article about a star in a slot previously about a (very different) star and scrambled to get it ready for posting.

So here it is now. I think it is far from perfect but hey, I'm fairly happy with how it's turned out.

Also, to reiterate, since a lot of people don't seem to have noticed,

THIS IS NOT A REWRITE. THIS IS IN NO WAY RELATED TO THE ORIGINAL SCP-1548.

This has been an awesome ride from the beginning working with NineVolt and I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Funny tidbit: the only reason the whole O5 thing exists was because I wanted the final reveal picture to be in a collapsible along with the entire note under an 'O5 clearance required' thing. The problem is that wikidot is kinda shite and doesn't allow nested collapsible so I had to get creative >__>

A ton of credit to everyone who reviewed from chat and on-site!

Just to note: this is NOT a rewrite. Let me clarify that: THIS IS NOT A REWRITE. This is its own thing completely detached from the original, even if it bears similarities. The stars aligned (haha) and we took advantage of the opportunity presented by this slot.

This is big, bulky, and boring. The emphasis on thaumaturgical symbols throughout the first half of the article stripped away much of the appeal of the Sun being an anomaly. I didn’t feel any sort of weight from the Ortothan mythos, which felt like a pastiche of SCP-1050, Kalinin’s Proposal, and Mission Statement - but without any of the grandeur, mystery, or sorrow present in the aforementioned articles, which only diluted the impact of this one.

That's fair enough. I was hoping the symbols would give some foreshadowing as to what the sun is trying to do here, but I can see why it fell flat. Same with the Ortothan stuff, which is more hindered by how it's still not massively established on the wiki than not, and the similarities to Mission Statement (which I hoped to avoid by having this more be about the Veil falling apart entirely than the Veil being preserved through extreme means).

E: One small nitpick is that I'd probably change the object class to something that's not Keter. Maybe Apollyon or maybe something else

Was Rakmou-leusan's death supposed to be foreshadowed? Because that was a gut-punch is I ever read one.

The last of the gods is dead, the Vorteut is laying siege to our solar system (why us?), and it seems that the sun is on our side.

We (read: I) still don't know what the Twelve Stars is/are, or probably was. Are the two dots in the pic significant in themselves, or is it just showing how much of the universe is left? What killed Rakmou-Leusan? Why is our sun defending us? Is the spiral coming back? What is even going on?

Twelve Stars is only meant to be a slight reference here, but it's going to be expanded more in the series SCP-3417 is a part of. The two dots are just how much of the universe is left (only two stars). Rakmou-leusan was killed by the Voruteut (the invasion was far too much to handle). The sun's motives are either A) It wants to protect the people in the solar system, or B) It only wants to protect itself from the invasion. The spiral was meant to suggest that SCP-2821 killed SCP-3417.

So is the anomaly also retrocausal, or did they just use some anomalous sensor technology to see what stars remained? Since the anomaly is recent, we should still see their light.

The name doesn't make sense at all. How is it a "Hateful Star"? If anything it is just a thaumaturgical star and not even that. It is just part of a star. It also refers to other SCPs a lot. I'm not a fan.

As of this writing, this article has retained the title of the one previously occupying the 1548 slot, due to the Series 2 mainlist page being locked from editing.

Ok so, this SCP does a lot of things right. A lot of stories-as-SCPs forget there's a core SCP there and get lost on some weird tangent and while this is long and has one of the most ridiculous scopes of any article I've read it still manages to flow pretty well for my tastes.

The references to other SCPs and how they're effected by the events here are a nice touch too, though perhaps overdone just a bit.

My biggest complaint though is that there seems to be a central bit of overarching lore that I'm not really familiar with or sure where to start on. It works well enough on its own as a story about extradimensional horrors devouring the universe and a possibly living sun trying to fight them off, but I kept getting the impression that there was a wink and a nudge to some reference I was supposed to get and just don't and that sensation irks me.

Still, +1.
