Hey folks! So, it's been 8 long months since I last wrote something, gosh time has flown! This has been sitting in my drafts for all that time, stewing in my head, and I hadn't made much progress on it until two days ago when I got struck with inspiration. This is the next entry in the Orcadia Canon, and one that I'm excited for because its the last piece in the puzzle leading up to the monster of an entry that will tie many things I've been building together, and set the stage for my 001.
Many thanks to
MaliceAforethought,
9Volt,
Mortos,
Tufto,
magnadeus,
Dr Balthazaar,
Weryllium, as well as
CadaverCommander,
Captain Kirby for their support. There was one additional person who looked at and critted this, but because I'm terrible, I completely forgot their name.
Heres some extra goodies for you folks.
- The not-human folks are the Finnfolk. There will be more to follow with them in the next entry.
- The Mahi-Mahi's name is Old Bessy.
- The insult in the first note that the rogue pilot makes means "Villainous Wolf."
- All the vehicles, and Finnfolk technology in general, are heavily inspired by the Movie Atlantis.
- The Finnfolk name all their vehicles, their weapons, and personal items. They hold a spiritual believe that everything named has a soul, and thus things that are important to them are named so they receive a soul.
- I sprinkled small bits of Finnfolk culture throughout the article, to give it a mixed feeling of, as Balthazaar put it "Atlantis x Mass Effect x Vikings."
- The Finnfolk are very much nomadic in nature, and hunters. They greatly enjoy fishing.
- This was a blast to write. The Cuttlefish had heavy influences from the mass effect Reapers, and I really hope that comes through in the design and imagery.
- The notes on the weapons interfaces are, in my head, white paper signs taped onto the consoles that say "Do Not Touch" and look tacky as hell against the alien-esque interior of the vessel.
Also apparently I cannot get people's names right or use the user function.
