I downvoted, but I'm conflicted about that.
The process seems, as far as I can tell, to defy conservation of mass. Mass literally vanishes from withing an affected subject, which is impossible with the most advanced technology, nevermind normal insects.
Also, to a lesser extent, these don't progress past the larval stage; which is anomalous, even if it isn't supernatural.
It's fairly well constructed, and has a pretty nice hook, but for whatever reason it just failed to grab me personally.
