I get nosebleeds a lot. The worst was in class, which was sadly often. Just the idea of what if it was a lot worse.
one time in high school i sneezed blood all over one of my standardized test packets and i had to retake it in the library the day after

I also had chronic nosebleeds for a while as a kid, so jesus this was creepy. +1
I kinda wish you'd left the thing in his hand ambiguous, but this is still a lovely piece. Pleasure to have you back, Mr. Dr. Gears. Looking forward to more new nightmares.
I guess my issue is that the buildup of tension is fantastic, but there really wasn't anything that could have been in his hand that would have lived up to the expectation. Not seeing the 'monster' might have been the way to go.
Kinda have to agree, but the very last few words did make me smile and I'm glad they were included. But boy was I getting anxious waiting to find out what the h-e-double-hockey-sticks was contained within that grip, and part of me wishes I never found out.
I do agree, but I don't know if i could, in good conscience, engage in that level of literary blue balls. Maybe in a longer work. Plus, I like/hate body horror…
Like, what I really wanted to know was, is there something embedded in his palm, or is there something growing out of it? And I think you could have conveyed that much without telling us what, exactly, was there. Knowing there's a thing growing out of this kid's hand that shouldn't be there is pretty freaky, after all.
