Death to the Prototype

Gear's Proposal is one of my favorite 001 proposals, and I've wanted to write something for it. But the biggest appeal of that article is how mundane and simple it is - how do you honor those original themes of that article?

By killing it off.

At the same time I was getting around to finishing this, Magnus's OldCon was ending. I realized that this had something literally dying of old age in it, and a little tweaking of the middle logs solidified the themes of growing old and growing up — it's not just the Prototype aging here, but the Foundation as a whole.

Huzzah, another entry!

I like the dual aspects of getting old, with the entity and the Foundation itself.

The ending was nice too in how inconclusive it ended up being. I like to believe that Harold is falling prey to his own imagination, and that 01-COG is as unimportant as the files state. The reference in the last line, while not subtle, is very appropriate (and set up quite nicely.)

I love how it adds a new layer to 001 -COG to be more than a simple demon: it was an embodiment of anomaly, no one knows anything other than its surface. Any deeper meaning or analysis was lost in it. What it actually was never actually revealed and perhaps, just like our first, better if nobody tried to.

I really enjoyed the layers of growth around the Foundation. I think this gave a really good glimpse in to how the foundation being so….continuous, would actually play out.

Ninety years in a non-site, then it just…dies. I didn't think about it much, but eventually a lot of these things in containment will just die, of natural causes.

So that's why it rhymes with Peter and not better?

Unfortunately, I am going to have to authorize a nuclear strike for this offense against nature.

Even though it died of old age, and it's documents were never updated, and it may or may not have had an important role of being a proposal, i just have one question:
Did it ever get their skins?

My head-canon pronunciation of "Keter" is the only canon pronunciation of "Keter", and I will deftly smite any article that says otherwise. -1

Wait, since when was it Kee-ter and not Kett-er? I spent ages thinking the former and p.sure I saw an official thing some years ago saying it was the latter instead.

Or maybe it was just a TV ad for the company that makes play-houses and garden storage lockers, IDK… but they're German anyway aren't they? (Certainly their stuff sometimes turns up in Aldi / Lidl special deals…)

I know it may be a YMMV thing, but is there an actual word of god proclamation on it anywhere?

The fact that this wasn't just a joke, and you actually downvoted, is frankly incredibly disappointing to me. To ignore the hard work of the author and downvote due to a single entertaining line is honestly absurd and something I'd consider near-unreasonable. While it may not be rule-breaking, I'm personally strongly against (down)voting because of what's essentially a meme in the community.
