Kinda iffy about this one. The AWCY? thing seems a bit forced, though.
blah blah I'm a sell out.
Man, I like this, but seriously FUCK ARE WE COOL YET?(!) I was really enjoying this and then you tacked on the reference at the end and it ruined the whole thing.
I'd say you're breaking my heart, but given the rate of AWCY hate in the first few minutes I'll leave this as something just found and remove the reference. Give me a minute or two to edit it out..
That kind of seems like you're chickening. Not that I would accuse you of anything, but some people may. Just sayin'.
I totally am, but early estimates seem to lean towards this not sticking around for long anyway. I'm just trying to buy Salman's upvote so I can have something to remember this by.
I would take it like a man but it's your thing so do what you want.
It's eh. The seemingly random AWCY? tag didn't help, but keeping or removing tmit at this point wouldn't change my vote. -1
It wasn't random, take another look at last payout message. It is, however, tacked-on and the straw that breaks my downvote threshold.
Not having seen the AWCY version, I actually liked this fine. Writing was a bit iffy at spots, and I'm not entirely sure what makes me like it, but I do, and that's the important part.
Writing needs tightening up (there's a few redundant phrases, for example). Otherwise, intriguing, not bad. I'll check back in a few days and see how it looks!
Edit: Well, it was more than a few days, but I like this. Upvoted.
Someone explain what the hell AWCY is for me? Maybe I'm just in a temporary state of derp.
The Foundation recovered the object and distributed class D amnestics to affected users and enforcement agents who had been exposed to SCP-1895.
That's amnesiacs. Also, those would be class A amnesiacs, the type used for short-term memory. I don't think the Foundation even has a class D amnesiac…
AWCY is a Group of Interest. It stands for Are We Cool Yet? The group tends to make strange objects for artistic purposes.
- It was a previous iteration.
- You are completely wrong. Amnesiacs refers to people with amnesia, and the interpretations if the different classes of amnestics and what they do are up to personal interpretation.
No canon, you can use whatever grade you want ;) In my head canon, the grades differ for what they target, how they're prepared, and as well for how they are delivered.
The site used "Amnesiacs" until someone pointed out that amnestic was a word. It's split between which people prefer, but I'd never hold it against someone for preferring Class A Amnesiacs over using the right word Amnestics.
As for the removed AWCY? reference, I had the tag line hidden away into the final note since I viewed this as multiple levels of metaphors and the idea of someone complaining about a slot machine being rigged made me laugh. It was distracting to the effect I was going for, so I just dropped it.
Today, kids, we learn the importance of checking a dictionary.
THE PREFIX IS "DIS-", NOT "DISS-"!
Thanks. I was planning on doing some edits to try to tighten up the writing tonight; I'll have to include your fixes after I find out for sure it was user error on my pass through for spell checking that let that all through.
The article is ok, but I believe we already have an SCP slot machine. This is different enough from the other one I remember, so no vote.
"No record of D-█████ was located in Foundation records. She is currently being held per the zero tolerance escapee policy and all testing suspended until the full nature of SCP-1895's effects can be determined."
I may just be reading this wrong, but the way it's written it seems to say "D-whatever does not exist, but we've locked her up just in case".
The device may be altering history/reality, if so then there are certain ethical and security questions to ask about if you can really trust someone that used to be D-Class but was tweaked into a role at the Foundation. Until they can confirm what the device is actually doing, it's safer all the way around to err on the side of over-caution.
Exactly, if this is a reality altering device that can "free" d-class then the exact nature of the alteration needs to be determined. Otherwise what if the "freed" d-class history and records have been changed but the individual themselves still has the personality that led to becoming a d-class? It would be irresponsible of the Foundation to ignore any potential breach, regardless of how small the chances are, and in this case the chances seem large.
The use of the pronoun "she" in the last paragraph makes the hook get lost a little. I'd use her name again with the blackout just to make certain your point is clear.
Over all, I'm not moved in any direction.
